Volume One, Chapter 18: The Project

Inside the coffee shop.
Jiang Wenwen looked utterly confused. "Brother Dong, what's going on here?"
"Why didn't President Qinglong make a move against Chu Lingtian?"
"And when I saw him with Chu Lingtian, they seemed pretty close, didn’t they?"
They were quite far away, so she could only vaguely see the friendly exchange between President Qinglong and Chu Lingtian.
Then President Qinglong took those blond guys away.
But one thing was certain: Chu Lingtian wasn’t being targeted like they had initially thought.
"Wait a minute."
Lin Shaodong’s face was full of suspicion.
Soon, the waiter who had served them earlier rushed over, panting. "Young Master Lin, I didn’t dare get too close, but from what I overheard, that President Qinglong called that young man something like Young Master. It’s clear—they’re on the same side!"
"So it’s true!"
Lin Shaodong’s expression darkened.
Chu Lingtian really was from the Black Dragon Society.
"No wonder he’s so arrogant in the Chu family."
"So he’s with the Black Dragon Society."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Wan looked enlightened.
"Hmph, so what if he’s from the Black Dragon Society? They’re just a bunch of thugs after all."
"Nothing but riffraff unworthy of respect."
Lin Shaodong sneered coldly, disdain flashing in his eyes.
"Sooner or later, we’ll take down the Black Dragon Society!"
Just a gang of criminals—if they wanted, the government could shut them down immediately.
But at least not now.
Right now, they had no leverage.
Crunch!
As soon as he finished speaking, Chu Lingtian plopped down in a chair opposite them.
Jiang Wan and Lin Shaodong were startled by the noise; seeing Chu Lingtian there, both were taken aback.
When had he gotten here?
"You want to mess with me? Fine. But if you touch the people around me, are you looking to die?"
Chu Lingtian tilted his head towards Lin Shaodong and snapped his fingers. The coffee cup on the table slid right in front of Lin Shaodong.
Smash!
The next moment, the intact cup shattered.
Lin Shaodong’s eyes suddenly narrowed, and he instinctively backed away.
"This is your warning. Next time, you’ll die without a sound." Chu Lingtian’s cold voice drifted lightly to their ears.
Lin Shaodong dared not respond.
Only after Chu Lingtian left did Jiang Wenwen frown and grumble unhappily, "What’s so great about him? He’s just a Black Dragon Society thug. Why be so arrogant with just that card?"
Seeing Lin Shaodong remain silent with a stern face, Jiang Wenwen quickly changed the subject, giving him an out. "Brother Dong, let’s focus on preparing to secure the New World project. That bastard Chu Lingtian can wait."
"Yeah, no problem." Lin Shaodong nodded.
…
Chu Lingtian took Jiang Wan to the Ziyun Villa.
It was a detached house located in a suburban villa community.
The environment was beautiful, the air fresh—perfect for living and recuperating.
Shortly after infusing Jiang Wan with Yang vitality, she opened her eyes.

"Lingtian, where is this?"
Jiang Wan remembered she had passed out in a hotel.
"This is Ziyun Villa. From now on, we’ll live here." Chu Lingtian said.
"Huh?"
Jiang Wan glanced around and immediately looked amazed.
"Live here? This place is really expensive!"
Ziyun Villa was the most expensive villa community in Jiangnan. Even the smallest detached houses cost hundreds of millions, and the one they were staying in was worth several hundred million at least.
Many top tycoons in Jiangnan had investments here.
Rumor had it that her grandfather also owned a property in this area.
Even renting here cost millions a month.
The bank cards her mother had given Chu Lingtian had long been frozen by her grandfather.
In fact, any bank cards related to the Jiang family were frozen by the family.
There was no money left now.
"It was a gift," Chu Lingtian said casually. "The environment here is excellent, very suitable for your recovery. You should rest well here."
Jiang Wan didn’t believe it was a gift.
Who could just give away a villa like this?
But she knew Chu Lingtian just wanted her to live comfortably. He meant well.
After a moment’s thought, Jiang Wan took out a card and handed it to Chu Lingtian. "Lingtian, this card contains my dowry from my mom. It was opened with someone else’s information, so the Jiang family hasn’t frozen it."
"There’s about twenty million in it. You keep it."
"My health isn’t good now. When I get better, I’ll see if I can find some work to do."
Although she had left the Jiang family, she still had some classmates and friends. Finding something to do shouldn’t be a problem.
If not in Jiangnan, she could always go elsewhere.
"Silly girl, how could I take your money? I have plenty—more than enough to spend."
Chu Lingtian was somewhat touched.
Aside from his master, no one had ever been so selflessly kind to him.
"That’s my money, but it’s also yours. What’s mine is yours," Jiang Wan said.
"That’s true. After all, you’re mine now," Chu Lingtian smiled.
"You! Annoying!" Jiang Wan playfully scolded him.
"You know about Huang Yancheng’s New World City project in East City, right?" Chu Lingtian asked casually.
"Yes, that project involves billions. My dad has negotiated many times but never got to meet President Huang. Why do you ask?" Jiang Wan was curious.
"Rest well today. Tomorrow, we’ll go to the Venus Tower."
"Huh? What for?" Jiang Wan was surprised.
"To discuss the project."
"Forget it." Jiang Wan sighed. "I haven’t been involved in projects for years due to my illness. Even if I could negotiate, my conditions wouldn’t be acceptable."
"You can do it. I say you can, so you can! No one’s better than my wife," Chu Lingtian declared without hesitation.
"Smooth talker!"
Jiang Wan’s cheeks flushed slightly.
Though she protested with words, inside she felt as sweet as honey.
No one had ever praised her like this before—even if it was just pretending. Even her father often showed impatience with her…
"Alright, I’ll listen to you."
In the meantime, Chu Lingtian called Huang Yancheng.
He mentioned the project,

and Huang Yancheng said it was no problem. The project originally assigned to Jiang Wenwen could be handed over to Jiang Wan.
After confirming Chu Lingtian was serious and arranging a meeting at Venus Tower the next day, Jiang Wan stayed up all night preparing her resume and detailing several projects she had experience with.
She had studied architecture in college,
and after graduation, she had earned many top qualifications like the First-Class Constructor license.
Though she had never actually used them.
The next morning, Chu Lingtian took her to Venus Tower early.
"Young Master..."
Zhang Chao was already waiting. Seeing Chu Lingtian, he almost called him Young Master instinctively.
Luckily, he caught himself.
"Miss Jiang, please come in. President Huang has been waiting for a long time."
Chu Lingtian had instructed him to avoid letting Jiang Wan know she was coming through his connections.
"Okay, I’m going up now."
Though Jiang Wan was surprised that President Huang wasn’t as hard to reach as she had imagined, she didn’t think much of it.
Not long after Jiang Wan went upstairs, an SUV pulled up outside.
The door opened.
Three people stepped out.
Leading them was a middle-aged man dressed in a Zhongshan suit with a dignified air.
Behind him were Lin Shaodong and Jiang Wenwen.
"Don’t worry, Wenwen. My father came personally. This will be fine," Lin Shaodong said confidently.
"Thank you, Brother Dong, and thank you, Uncle Lin," Jiang Wenwen said with eyes curved into crescent moons.
But soon her smile stiffened.
Because at the entrance of the building, they saw Chu Lingtian crouched on the ground, playing cricket.
"Chu Lingtian, what are you doing here?" Jiang Wenwen sneered.
"I’m here with my wife to discuss the New World project," Chu Lingtian said.
"You’re disgusting."
Jiang Wenwen’s face changed. They had talked about the New World project at Venus Tower yesterday. This guy must have found out,
so he was trying to snatch her project to spite her and the Jiang family.
But without the Lin family’s recommendation, even her grandfather couldn’t get this project.
She sneered with contempt. "That cripple Jiang Wan wants to steal my project? What a joke!"
"Then you all can leave. You have no chance with this project," Chu Lingtian said, still toying with the cricket on the ground without lifting his eyes.
"Heh, young man, you’ve got some nerve," Secretary Lin said, staring at Chu Lingtian as if he were crazy.
He had come personally; it was practically a sure thing.
"Alright, Dad, let’s go inside," Lin Shaodong waved his hand, unwilling to stoop to Chu Lingtian’s level.
But just as they were about to enter, Jiang Wan came down in the elevator.
"Lingtian!"
Her face was full of smiles, as joyful as a child.
