Chapter 17: I Am Not Flirtatious, I Have No Interest in Other Women
“Xu Si’an!!!”
“What? Weren’t you the one who told me to let go?”
Qiao Xu was truly angry now. She struggled to get off his legs.
Did she ask him to let go of this? No, what she wanted him to release was his dog-like grip.
As Qiao Xu struggled to free herself, the IV needle in her hand began bleeding again.
“Don’t move, it’s bleeding back.”
“Then fasten it for me.”
Xu Si’an let out a sound of resignation and reached to unbutton her clothes.
Qiao Xu was irritable, “Don’t touch my clothes.”
“You’re being unreasonable now. Do you think I can fasten this with one hand?”
Someone entered the infusion room, and Xu Si’an put down her clothes. “I’ll button it for you later.”
Qiao Xu:...
She took a deep breath. “Xu Si’an, let’s talk.”
He gently pinched her ear. “Talk about what? Other than love, I won’t talk about anything else.”
Qiao Xu pretended not to hear. “Xu Si’an, we’ve broken up.”
“I’ve returned your dog too. Can you stop clinging to me?”
“No.”
Xu Si’an lowered his head and kissed her ear. Qiao Xu tilted her head to avoid him.
“I will love, and I will marry.”
“Love me, marry me.”
Qiao Xu shook her head. “We’re broken up. That’s a fact.”
Suddenly, Xu Si’an’s expression grew cold. “Then reconcile.”
“I will resign.”
“Qiao Xu, do you have to be like this?”
Each “break up” from her pierced Xu Si’an’s heart like a sharp blade, repeatedly reminding him of reality.
Her voice softened considerably. “I don’t like entanglements with someone who no longer loves me.”
Xu Si’an smiled. “No longer love?”
He grabbed her chin and forced her head back, looking into her eyes where he could clearly see the tears he was holding back.
“You’re the one who said you loved me first, and you’re the one who said you didn’t love me first.”
“Qiao Xu, do you enjoy making me love you so desperately, only to throw me away mercilessly?”
His tears fell on her cheek.
Qiao Xu’s heart ached sharply, her face growing paler.
“Xu Si’an, you should find a woman of equal standing.”
Someone like Shen Zhiwei, a lady from a prestigious family, not someone like her—a burden without background or family in a small city.
He released her chin and reached out to fasten the buttons of her underwear.
With one hand, he circled her waist and helped her sit down in the chair.
He stood up and said coldly, “I’m not promiscuous. I’m not interested in other women.”
After placing a cup of hot water beside her, Xu Si’an left.
When Qiao Xu’s first bottle of infusion was nearly finished, the nurse arrived punctually to change it.
“The man just now was your boyfriend?”
Qiao Xu shook her head. “No, he’s my boss.”
“Then your boss seems quite concerned about you.”
During the infusion, Qiao Xu felt drowsy, but she didn’t dare fall into a deep sleep without someone nearby, and she didn’t have her phone.
When he carried her out of the house, she had nothing with her.
After a long while, Xu Si’an came back with a bag of medicine and sat beside her. He took out his phone and opened a WeChat jump game, placing the phone on her lap.
Then he closed his eyes.
Qiao Xu was a bit surprised—he hadn’t left?
The infusion had just finished, and before she could press the nurse call button, the man beside her reached out to ring the bell above.
After the nurse removed the needle, she asked her to press down for five minutes.
Xu Si’an held her hand, pressing the hemostatic pad, then closed his eyes again.
He left after sending her back to the apartment.
Qiao Xu sat on the sofa, still a little dazed.
They hadn’t spoken a word since their conversation earlier.
His suit jacket was still draped over her.
After sitting for a while, Qiao Xu got up and went to the kitchen to prepare something to eat.
She hadn’t eaten much these past two days; her stomach was empty.
After the fever subsided, her hunger returned.
Just as she boiled water to make a bowl of noodles, the doorbell rang.
She opened the door—it was a food delivery.
“Miss Qiao? Your delivery is here.”
Qiao Xu was stunned. “I didn’t order anything. You must have the wrong address.”
“The address is correct. Does your phone end with 0098?”
Qiao Xu nodded. The delivery person handed her the bag and left.
After closing the door, she sat at the dining table and opened the bag, immediately knowing who had sent it.
She sniffled, her eyes red, finished the porridge, and then went back to her room to sleep.
After resting at home for two days, she no longer had a fever but still coughed.
She took the suit to the dry cleaners and stopped by the veterinary clinic.
After learning that Cherry had been picked up, she went home.
The next day at work, Qiao Xu discovered that Xu Si’an had a special assistant.
It was Song Jia, whom she had met before.
“Sister Xu, we’re colleagues from now on.”
Qiao Xu smiled softly. “Then I’ll tidy up the office for you.”
She was only temporarily filling the assistant position. Once a suitable candidate was found, she would leave, not wanting to occupy someone else’s place.
Song Jia quickly waved her hand. “No need, my office is next to yours.”
Xu Si’an walked out of the office expressionless.
He passed by Qiao Xu, and the two returned to the moment of their initial reunion.
It was as if nothing that happened or was said at the hospital that day had occurred.
After the morning meeting, Qiao Xu was somewhat surprised by Song Jia’s professionalism.
Compared to Song Jia, she felt she was only suited to be a secretary.
Carrying a bag, Qiao Xu went to the CEO’s office.
She stood outside for a few seconds before knocking.
“Come in.”
Hearing the man’s cold, deep voice, she pushed the door open. “President Xu.”
Xu Si’an was on the phone, speaking in English—likely about the overseas joint venture project of Rising Star Corporation.
He raised his hand, signaling Qiao Xu to sit.
She stood by the desk, waiting.
Qiao Xu had an IELTS score of eight, already a top academic achievement, while Xu Si’an had a perfect score.
She used to say listening to him speak English was a pleasure.
After more than ten minutes, Xu Si’an hung up. “What do you want?”
His voice was flat, as if they were merely superior and subordinate.
“This is your suit. It’s been dry cleaned.”
Xu Si’an looked at the computer without lifting his head. “Put it down.”
“President Xu?”
He looked up with cold eyes. “You want to talk about resigning?”
Qiao Xu choked on her words. “I want to ask, since there’s a special assistant now, can I return to the secretary office?”
“Is a special assistant the same as an executive assistant?”
Qiao Xu was momentarily stunned, not quite processing it. “Aren’t they the same? Executive special assistant or special assistant.”
“They have their own tasks, and you have yours.”
“If you don’t want to do it anymore, follow HR’s resignation procedures. Once they find the right person and hand over the work, you can leave.”
Qiao Xu stood silently. The office was quiet for more than ten seconds.
“Anything else?”
“No.”
Xu Si’an gave a slight grunt. “You may leave.”
After Qiao Xu turned and left the office, Xu Si’an called the HR director.
“If Qiao Xu submits her resignation, hold it off. Let her wait through the process. Don’t do anything else.”
