The engine started.
Zhang Mingyang still glanced nervously at Xu Fei.
"Alright?"
Xu Fei nodded.
"I mean your back."
"It's bearable."
In truth, at that moment, the pain in Xu Fei's back made it impossible for him to sit, but he knew that if he told Zhang Mingyang, his hot-tempered Third Brother would never let him drive.
Enduring the pain.
Xu Fei pressed down on the accelerator.
The moment he did.
The pain nearly made him pass out.
The truck slowly began to move.
When the truck met resistance, Xu Fei stomped hard on the gas.
The Jiefang truck gave a slight lurch.
Zhang Mingyang's whole body leaned forward with effort.
"Go!"
He shouted in a low voice.
Whether it was due to his shout or not.
The truck actually drove off.
"Fourth Brother, we made it out!"
Zhang Mingyang reached over and gave Xu Fei a firm slap on the shoulder.
That slap.
Made Xu Fei's body tremble.
"Are... are you alright?"
Xu Fei forced a grin.
"I'm fine."
He continued driving forward.
About another half hour passed.
Finally, they saw light up ahead.
At that moment.
The rain also seemed to have lightened considerably.
"It's a town!"
Zhang Mingyang pointed at a building that flashed past the roadside.
Then.
More and more houses began to appear along the road.
"Let's find a hospital."
Xu Fei drove the truck into the small town.
Soon.
They spotted a glowing red cross by the roadside.
"There!"
Zhang Mingyang shouted, pointing ahead.
Xu Fei nodded and drove toward it—it turned out to be a clinic. In a small town like this, there was no real hospital, but this was better than nothing.
Xu Fei brought the truck to a stop.
Zhang Mingyang leaped out in a single stride.
"I'll go get someone."
He ran into the clinic.
Before long.
A man dressed as a doctor ran out with Zhang Mingyang, carrying a stretcher.
The two of them first lifted Zhao Tie onto the stretcher.
"You two go ahead, I'll park the truck."
Zhang Mingyang nodded.
Soon after.

Zhang Mingyang ran back out.
Only then did he help Xu Fei inside as well.
When they entered the clinic.
In the examination room.
Zhao Tie lay on a hospital bed.
The male doctor and a nurse were checking on Zhao Tie's condition.
Zhang Mingyang helped Xu Fei over to another bed.
"Lie down for a while."
Xu Fei was helped down onto the bed.
"How are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine."
Xu Fei turned his head to look at Zhao Tie.
"Doctor, is he alright?"
The male doctor turned to glance at Xu Fei.
"He seems to have been knocked unconscious, nothing serious."
"Doctor, come take a look at my brother."
The male doctor walked over.
"What's wrong with you?"
Xu Fei turned onto his side.
Zhang Mingyang lifted up his clothes.
The doctor reached out and examined him.
Every touch to Xu Fei's back was excruciating.
"Doctor, is my brother alright?"
"Also a bruise from the impact. I'll prescribe some medicine to promote blood circulation and disperse stasis. Give it to him first."
The male doctor turned and walked over to his desk.
Wrote out a prescription.
Had Zhang Mingyang and the nurse go pay and pick up the medicine.
"So, how did you two manage this? Weren't you driving?"
The male doctor walked up to Xu Fei and asked.
Xu Fei recounted the whole ordeal.
"That's too dangerous. You know that stretch of road is notorious for being perilous. We locals won't dare set foot on it whenever it rains."
"Why?"
"Why?"
The male doctor smiled and shook his head.
"During the War of Resistance, to fight battles, a lot of hidden pits were dug there. Whenever it rains, those pits reappear."
Only then did Xu Fei understand why the truck had been driving fine and then suddenly dropped into a pit.
Zhang Mingyang returned with the medicine.
He got some hot water from the nurse and first gave Xu Fei his dose.
The male doctor said, "You two should spend the night here."
Zhang Mingyang said some words of thanks.
The male doctor then went back to the duty room to rest.
The night passed without incident.
The next day.
Xu Fei was still in his sleep.
He heard Zhang Mingyang shouting from nearby, "Zhao Tie, are you even human? The Fourth Brother and I went through all that to save you, and now you're fine, but look at our Fourth Brother—he still hasn't woken up."
Xu Fei laughed inwardly.
He slowly opened his eyes.
"Third Brother, I'm fine."
Seeing Xu Fei awake.
Zhang Mingyang hurried over.
"How are you? I just went into town and bought some breakfast. Want some?"
He pointed to two steaming bowls of rice porridge on the desk.
"Sure, I'm actually hungry."

Xu Fei said as he tried to sit up.
But he found that his back no longer had any strength at all.
"You alright, little brother?"
Zhao Tie walked over, clutching his head.
"I'm fine, Brother Zhao. Are you feeling better?"
"Yeah."
Zhao Tie looked at Xu Fei with a hint of embarrassment.
"I just heard him tell me—you were hurt last night saving me too?"
Zhang Mingyang helped Xu Fei up.
"I'm fine, I'm much better now."
"Much better? If you were much better, you'd be able to sit up on your own. Look at him—he's the one who's actually fine."
Zhang Mingyang shot Zhao Tie a glare as he spoke.
"I'm... I'm sorry."
Zhao Tie lowered his head and bowed deeply to Xu Fei.
"Don't, don't. Brother Zhao, what are you doing?"
But Zhao Tie waved his hand at Xu Fei.
"Don't move. I just asked the doctor—he said your injuries are far more serious than mine."
"Serious? Hah. The doctor just said that if you don't take proper care of yourself, Fourth Brother, your back might leave lasting problems."
Xu Fei said with a smile, "Third Brother, I just got knocked around a bit. How could it leave lasting problems?"
Zhang Mingyang shot Xu Fei a glare.
"You never listen to me. Fine, I'll go get the doctor to tell you himself."
Xu Fei grabbed his arm.
"Alright, alright, Third Brother, I believe you."
Seeing him say that, Zhang Mingyang nodded, then turned to Zhao Tie and said, "Go get the porridge."
Zhao Tie hurriedly turned and brought the rice porridge over.
Zhang Mingyang took the porridge.
"Eat up."
He said, picking up the spoon, about to feed Xu Fei.
"Third Brother, I can do it myself."
Xu Fei took the spoon.
"Can you manage?"
"Third Brother, it's fine. Don't worry."
Xu Fei reached out to scoop from the bowl, but the moment he raised his arm, the wound in his back pulled and made him wince.
See? I told you not to move right now."
Zhao Tie stepped forward and grabbed the spoon from Xu Fei's hand.
"I'll feed you."
The two-hundred-jin fat man sat down beside Xu Fei, and the entire bed creaked and groaned.
"Come on, give it a rest. If you collapse the bed and send the Fourth Brother tumbling, go on, go on—go drink that other bowl of porridge too."
Zhang Mingyang snatched the spoon from Zhao Tie's hand as he spoke.
With one hand holding the bowl and the other holding the spoon, he scooped up a mouthful of porridge, blew on it, and then brought the spoon to Xu Fei's lips.
Zhao Tie watched him be so careful.
He turned and walked over to the desk.
After sitting down, he looked at the rice porridge.
Suddenly, he burst into tears.
"What's this..."
Zhang Mingyang saw him crying.
"Hey, you fatty, you won't eat your food properly, so why are you crying? Are you trying to ruin the Fourth Brother's appetite?"
Zhao Tie wiped his tears.
"I'm sorry. I just feel that what I did before was utterly inhuman."
