Chapter 85: H-Source Body Enhancement Serum
Chen Zhenguang shook his head. “It’s useless. No matter how much you use, it won’t have any effect on your father’s condition. The genetic rupture in your father’s body is far too severe—current gene optimization serums simply can’t help. Besides, this is a new type of genetic medicine; no one knows what side effects might occur if you overdose!”
“Then what should we do? Director Chen, there must be a way. My father really can’t afford to fall!” In desperation, Dan Yuchen could only plead with Chen Zhenguang.
“There is one possible solution.”
“What is it?” Dan Yupeng, barely restraining himself from grabbing Chen Zhenguang, asked excitedly.
“The company that manufactures the gene optimization serum—they’re rumored to have already begun developing the next generation of an even stronger gene optimization serum. The owner of Fantasy Tech, Zhu Lan, once said that the current gene optimization serum is only the first generation—the basic version. He has said before that Fantasy Tech plans to develop a second-generation gene optimization serum within the next three to five years.”
“My father probably can’t wait that long, can he?”
Chen Zhenguang nodded at Dan Yuchen’s words. “Just like your own company: would you really believe it if someone said your new product would only be ready in three years?”
“So you’re saying Fantasy Tech already has some preliminary results?”
“Of course. I heard from a friend that Fantasy Tech started developing the second generation even before the first generation was released. Obviously, your father can’t wait for the full development of the second generation, but you might be able to get your hands on a pseudo-second-generation gene optimization serum.”
“Pseudo-second-generation? What is that?”
“It’s essentially an enhanced version of the first-generation serum. Your father’s current condition is extremely fragile—the first generation can no longer help him much. I discovered that the serum on the market is already diluted. When it’s packaged, a single dose is divided into three to five vials. If you could get your hands on the undiluted, authentic first-generation serum, it might help your father hold on until the second generation appears. Of course, if Fantasy Tech has already developed the second generation, that would be even better—your father’s chance of survival would be as high as ninety percent.”
“Ninety percent?”
Chen Zhenguang nodded. “Since this is a new drug and there isn’t much experience with it, I can only give you a rough estimate based on my experience.”
“Is that so?” Dan Yuchen fell silent.
Yesterday, Dan Yuchen had asked his secretary to gather information on Fantasy Tech. Now, he wasn’t holding out much hope. Although the Guangming Group was powerful, Fantasy Tech didn’t even pay attention to Canglong Group. Compared to the nationwide reputation of Canglong, Guangming was insignificant beyond its own province. Still, for the sake of his father, Dan Yuchen was willing to try, no matter the outcome.
He wasted no time. The next day, he arranged everything, chartered a plane, and flew directly to the province with Dan Yupeng.
Upon hearing the report from his subordinates, Zhu Lan came out to personally greet Dan Yuchen and his party.
Dan Mingshan’s condition was poor—drifting in and out of consciousness, his state highly unstable.
Zhu Lan summoned Luo Wuyan.
Luo Wuyan was no longer the head of the biology department’s research team, having been demoted to deputy director due to several previous mistakes. If not for his sole passion for research and lack of other ambitions, Zhu Lan might have dismissed him long ago.
It had to be admitted—Luo Wuyan was a model scientist, devoted only to scientific research. At thirty, still unmarried, he was the person who knew the most about the gene optimization serum.
“Manager Lan, please take our guests to the lounge.”
“I need to perform an examination on your father. Please wait a moment,” Zhu Lan said, following Luo Wuyan.
Dan Mingshan was wheeled into the second floor of Building Six, where live animal testing for the gene optimization serum was carried out and where the enhanced serum was also to be used. The facility was fully equipped for medical experiments.
Dan Mingshan had already lost consciousness.
Luo Wuyan reviewed the test results from Xiehe Hospital and Tsinghua University. The more he read, the deeper his frown became.
“How does it look?” Zhu Lan asked.
“Boss, the situation is dire.” Luo Wuyan handed the report to Zhu Lan.
Zhu Lan took it, and upon seeing the results, frowned as well. Though he’d had an inkling, the actual report confirmed how severe Dan Mingshan’s condition truly was.
Guangming Group would never have asked Zhu Lan to get involved personally unless things were desperate.
What interested Zhu Lan, however, was Guangming Group’s solar manufacturing subsidiary. Guangming Group owned several companies—one made automotive parts, and was a supplier for S Volkswagen, among others. Guangming Manufacturing didn’t just supply cars; it also had agreements with BAW, Great Wall, and other large truck manufacturers. Though not widely known, Guangming Manufacturing had recently begun supplying parts to the shipbuilding industry as well.
To reduce transportation costs, Guangming Group also established Guangming Logistics, which generated billions in annual revenue, operating over a hundred thousand trucks and serving tens of thousands of businesses nationwide.
They also had a lighting division—energy-saving lamps, fluorescent lights, rainbow lights—Guangming Lighting was one of the few major lighting companies in the north.
Solar manufacturing was a new venture invested in six years ago, with solar water heaters being sold nationwide for four years, earning a good reputation. In terms of performance, Guangming’s solar water heaters outperformed their competitors. Guangming Group had invested heavily in solar applications, collaborating with top universities such as West University, Peking University, and Tsinghua to develop high-efficiency solar technologies.
What Zhu Lan valued most was Guangming Group’s solar manufacturing. In all of China, only Guangming Group seemed the perfect fit for Fantasy Tech—its background was clean, its founder, Dan Mingshan, had built it up from nothing. Unlike other solar enterprises with ties to Beijing or other regions, Guangming was free of entanglements.
Moreover, Guangming was now on the decline. This was Zhu Lan’s opportunity. With this in mind, Zhu Lan agreed to try to save Dan Mingshan—if successful, it would greatly benefit his own plans.
“Do you have a solution?” Zhu Lan set down the report and looked at Luo Wuyan.
Luo Wuyan was silent for a moment, then said, “Boss, this is the first time we’ve seen a case like Dan Mingshan’s. The gene optimization serum alone can’t possibly fix his genetic rupture. He’ll probably need the Source Body.”
Zhu Lan frowned. The Source Body was a gene serum, but not the same as the initial version. It was a product of six months’ worth of refinements by Luo Wuyan and his team—an accidental breakthrough, with very limited quantity. Not enough to make even five doses remained, and three had already been used in previous experiments, leaving only one and a half doses. None of the previous attempts had succeeded, and no one knew exactly how the Source Body was produced.
Zhu Lan had once asked Red Queen to take over, but even she was stumped. When they tried it against certain viruses, the Source Body’s repair ability simply destroyed the virus outright.
Originally, Zhu Lan had planned to experiment with stronger viruses once the Azure Base was completed, but now Luo Wuyan was proposing to use the Source Body.
“What are the chances of success?”
Luo Wuyan looked embarrassed, unable to meet Zhu Lan’s gaze. “Only about forty percent. The Source Body is far too powerful, and Dan Mingshan’s condition is extremely grave. I’m afraid he might not survive the repair process, just like Test Subject 163, who exploded and died.”
Zhu Lan said nothing for a moment, weighing whether he was truly willing to use the Source Body.
The Source Body was Fantasy Tech’s greatest secret, known to fewer than five people, including Zhu Lan himself.
In Zhu Lan’s opinion, the Source Body’s power was on par with the super-soldier serum from the comics. Created from stimulants and weakened serum combined with purified elements, it not only repaired genes but also significantly enhanced and unlocked human potential.
The earliest lab mice showed no outward changes, but their strength increased tenfold, nearly destroying the lab. If Kong Yan hadn’t intervened in time, a biohazard might have resulted.
“What if we reduced the dosage?”
Luo Wuyan thought for a moment and nodded. “That could work, but boss, if we reduce the dosage, one vial probably won’t be enough. If we have to use more, making more Source Body will be extremely difficult!”
“I understand. Go ahead—use it all if you have to.” Zhu Lan decided after only a moment’s thought.
The Source Body was an extraordinary achievement, if an accidental one, and Zhu Lan took pride in it. But it was so powerful that only a few bodies could withstand it. Until now, Zhu Lan had only dared use it on animals—its strength caused test subjects to explode from the inside out.
The quantum communication satellite project required a reliable partner. Zhu Lan had originally planned to build up the War Club and his network before tackling this, but now Guangming had come knocking. Though not the top solar manufacturer in the country, it was still among the best. With Zhu Lan’s technical support, Guangming could produce the solar panels he needed.
That was why Zhu Lan was willing to use the Source Body to save Dan Mingshan.
Though formidable, Zhu Lan had access to even greater things—from the comics, there were many successful super-soldier serums. With Red Queen’s bioengineering talent, it would be simple to create enhancement fluids rivaling the Source Body.
By comparison, Zhu Lan had little faith in the Source Body, as it was too complex—even Red Queen needed half a day just to analyze its code.
With Zhu Lan’s instructions, Luo Wuyan said nothing more. He waved at a few people and went into another room, retrieving a vial of blue-black liquid from a locked case.
“Leave a specimen,” Zhu Lan instructed.
Luo Wuyan nodded. “Yes.”
He poured a portion of the Source Body into a new bottle for preservation, while the remainder was prepared for activation.
The Source Body required electrical stimulation to take effect. Before injection, an electric current had to awaken its dormant factors; otherwise, it would simply lie latent in the body with no effect. The stimulation process itself was lengthy.
