Chapter 34: The Non-Pure-Blood Wizard of Slytherin

Crack—crack—crack—
The wand pointed directly at the wooden table before the two of them, and under the influence of the magic, the table began to sprout branches and leaves.
Dead wood comes to life!
Dumbledore, witnessing it all with his own eyes, wore an expression of awe and murmured, “Incredible, truly incredible! This overwhelming life energy—it’s as if nature itself is casting the spell.”
“All along, magic has only manifested as a pure form of energy.”
“Even among wizards, with distinctions between white and dark witches, and exceptions like dark magic, fundamentally, it’s all just pure magical power. But this kind of innate magic, infused with a special quality, is the first I’ve ever encountered in my life!”
Dumbledore looked as if he had discovered a treasure, his face shining with the innocent joy of a child.
By the time Chu Yang’s magic dissipated, a small tree had grown from the wooden table, nearly touching the ceiling. Vines below bore ivy and clusters of colorful little flowers.
The portraits on the wall could no longer contain themselves and began chattering noisily.
“Astounding! What a breathtaking sight!”
“This completely overturns my understanding. That child didn’t cast a single spell, yet produced such an astonishing effect.”
“Dumbledore, you must capture him for study! Who knows, this might spark a magnificent new era!”
Chu Yang slowly lifted his head and coldly stared at the portrait that was clamoring to seize him.
*Phineas Nigellus Black*
The first Slytherin headmaster, and also the most unpopular principal in Hogwarts history!
He was also the great-great-grandfather of Harry’s godfather, Sirius Black.
In short... he was the most detestable of all the headmaster portraits!
“Don’t say that, Headmaster Phineas,” Dumbledore said, stroking his beard and wiping his glasses. “He’s about to enter Slytherin. In fact, he’s one of your descendants.”
“What?” Phineas suddenly erupted in anger!
Only a gaping mouth remained in the frame as he shouted, “I absolutely forbid a Muggle-born child from entering the great Slytherin House!”
Phineas had overheard the conversation between Chu Yang and Dumbledore and knew Chu Yang came from an orphanage.

As for Dumbledore’s later claim that Chu Yang might be descended from a famous Eastern wizarding family, Phineas dismissed it outright.
He had never used Legilimency on Chu Yang, so naturally he couldn’t accept Dumbledore’s viewpoint.
“You’ve been dead for over sixty years, yet you still cling to that tedious bloodline theory?” a female headmaster sneered scornfully, clearly despising Phineas.
Chu Yang glanced at her name.
*Dilys Derwent*
Before becoming one of Hogwarts’ most renowned headmistresses, she was the chief healer at St. Mungo’s Magical Hospital.
Dilys became headmistress long before Phineas, so when she spoke, Phineas usually kept silent.
After the two portraits quieted down, Chu Yang finally asked, “Why was I sorted into Slytherin?”
Dumbledore was silent for a moment before replying, “Slytherin is an excellent house, but their views on certain things are overly rigid. As headmaster, I cannot forcibly interfere with the students’ beliefs.”
“The best person to change their mindset has to be one of their own students.”
Chu Yang frowned. “Why me?”
Dumbledore explained, “The one to earn their trust must be a wizard born of Muggle parents; otherwise, it’s meaningless. But such wizards usually lack strong talent and can’t accomplish this. Yet you possess extraordinary potential...”
Chu Yang was skeptical. He always felt that the seemingly kindly old man before him was hiding all sorts of ulterior motives.
Suddenly, he recalled Dumbledore’s plan to shape Harry Potter as a savior.
Good grief, am I just the backup plan?
The more Chu Yang thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. But given the current situation, he found it difficult to refuse Dumbledore’s arrangement—after all, the compensation they had agreed upon might vanish otherwise.
“Fine, Slytherin it is. But I have to say this up front: if any students treat me unfriendly, I will fight back resolutely when the time comes. Don’t blame me then!”
A bunch of pre-graduation dark wizards? Fine, I’ll fight dark wizards!
Dumbledore chuckled at Chu Yang’s eager stance and teased, “If you feel your safety is threatened, of course you may defend yourself. I can guarantee that!”
“In that case, I’m happy to join Slytherin,” Chu Yang bowed slightly, then reminded, “And please remember our agreement!”
“I never go back on my word,” Dumbledore said mischievously, winking with the air of an old rascal.

Then he summoned a house-elf and said, “Please invite Professor Snape to the office.”
The house-elf quickly vanished.
Hearing Snape’s name, Chu Yang sighed silently.
If anyone in Harry Potter’s world was tragic, it was him.
The girl he loved was seduced away by the boys who bullied him daily, and yet he risked his life to protect their son.
Severus Snape’s deep love for Lily Evans commands respect.
But it also feels pitiful and foolish.
Honestly, Chu Yang thought that if he were in Snape’s shoes, he would have first tried to kill James Potter.
The humiliation Snape suffered in fifth year, the infamous hanging hook incident, dealt a devastating blow to his life, driving a wedge between him and his lifelong love, Lily Evans.
From Harry’s perspective, James Potter was a great father; from the viewpoint of Sirius Black and other friends, James was a trustworthy companion.
But from an objective outsider’s perspective, they were a bunch of jerks—far worse than Draco Malfoy.
How one judges a person’s character depends entirely on one’s perspective.
About ten minutes later, Snape arrived late to escort the new student to Slytherin. He first greeted Dumbledore respectfully, then looked coldly at Chu Yang.
The shocking spectacle in the Great Hall remained vivid in Snape’s mind.
He remembered Professor McGonagall saying the Sorting Hat could not decide the child’s future, and now Dumbledore had summoned him to the office—what for was obvious.
Sure enough, Dumbledore spoke next: “Professor Snape, from today on, Chu Yang is a Slytherin student. Please take him to the dormitory.”
You’re letting a Muggle-born orphan into Slytherin?
Snape could already imagine how difficult Chu Yang’s days ahead would be!
