Chapter 9: The Unexpected Turn

Just as Lin Yi was deeply engrossed, he noticed the diary abruptly ended at this point, indicating that Liu Hong must have encountered trouble not long after writing these entries.
However, from the diary’s content, Lin Yi gleaned a wealth of information, resolving many of his doubts.
It seemed his elder brother still cared for him; he had even contemplated bringing Lin Yi into the Apocalypse world.
Lin Yi felt a twinge of regret. Had Liu Hong not met with misfortune, Lin Yi himself might not have qualified to access the Apocalypse world now.
With this in mind, Lin Yi looked up and asked, “Xiao Bo, where did you find this diary and the envelope?”
Liu Bo replied, “Brother Yi, these were hidden under the floor of my dad’s bedroom bookshelf. He mentioned it to me once before, and I nearly forgot, but luckily I remembered.”
“My dad hid these things very secretively, so the police never found them. But Brother Yi, if what my dad wrote about the Apocalypse world is true, that there really is a game-like alternate world, should we hand this over to the authorities?”
Lin Yi turned to Liu Bo and asked, “What do you think?”
Liu Bo hesitated, “I... I don’t know. I think the diary is alright, but the activation code in the envelope might be very valuable. I don’t want to give it away.”
After some thought, Lin Yi said, “Then keep it. It’s something your dad left for you, so it’s yours to manage.”
“However, judging from your dad’s diary, that so-called Apocalypse world is very dangerous. If you die there, you really die. You must consider carefully before using the activation code.”
Liu Bo nodded solemnly, “Don’t worry, Brother Yi, I understand the gravity of this. But Brother Yi, aren’t you tempted by that activation code?”
When he asked this, Liu Bo deliberately looked up to gauge Lin Yi’s expression.

Lin Yi smiled and patted Liu Bo’s shoulder. “This is your dad’s legacy. Even if I wanted it, there’s nothing I can do. Besides, if what your dad said is true and that world is so perilous, I don’t think this activation code is something good.”
Seeing Lin Yi genuinely uninterested in the white activation code, Liu Bo smiled broadly. “Don’t worry, Brother Yi. If I manage to establish myself in that world, I’ll get an activation code for you too. Then the two of us can grow together in that world…”
Lin Yi laughed and said, “Alright, it’s settled then. But if you ever run into trouble there, let me know. I’m an old-school player, experienced with all kinds of games, and I’ll help you.”
“I know, Brother Yi. I’ll definitely be bothering you in the future.”
...
After leaving Liu Bo, Lin Yi suppressed his swirling thoughts and headed to the studio.
There were more members in the studio today. Lin Yi made a quick round, assigned everyone their tasks for the day, and then found an excuse to return home.
Liu Hong’s diary proved very useful; Lin Yi summarized quite a few key points.
First, the Apocalypse game indeed has many beginner villages. Every so often, new players appear in each of these villages. Villages like “Ancient Pool” and “Dayu” seem far apart, and communication between them is not possible until reaching the professional level.
Second, leveling up in the game is crucial. Each level grants a significant boost in attribute points, but currently, merely taking on tasks won’t increase your level; only killing monsters will.
Liu Hong’s diary mainly recorded two types of monsters: one called “Yao,” and another called “Spectral Spirit,” which appears at night. The former has a physical form, is bloodthirsty and ferocious, and feeds on humans. The latter is ethereal and ghostlike, killing invisibly.
Lin Yi suspected that the ghost demon he encountered yesterday was a type of “Yao.”
Third, after level ten comes the professional level, but the diary did not clarify what professional level means or what careers are available. Perhaps Liu Hong intentionally omitted this crucial information from the diary.

However, since Liu Hong obtained information about the professional level through the village chief of their “Dayu” village, it suggests that once you gain a certain standing in a beginner village, it’s fairly easy to get such information from senior village members.
Of course, Lin Yi wasn’t in a hurry about the professional level, as he was only level one and far from level ten.
Fourth, one must not reveal their identity lightly in the real world. Liu Hong’s identity was exposed, attracting the attention of some “Black Card Alliance,” who threatened him into a deal.
Fifth, Liu Hong appeared to have a special forging talent, which allowed him to craft spiritual weapons and become the village chief’s apprentice.
Lin Yi connected this to his own universal talent. If he shares the same activation code as Liu Hong, could they have the same talents?
As for the forging talent, it seemed Liu Hong had randomly drawn it from the universal talent and then solidified it.
If that’s the case, activation codes clearly have levels.
Liu Hong’s golden activation code was likely very precious, while the one he left to his son Liu Bo was ordinary.
With this in mind, Lin Yi realized he must keep the information about Liu Hong’s activation code secret. Otherwise, not only would government agents target him, but the Black Card Alliance might come after him as well.
Thinking this over, Lin Yi concluded that he couldn’t spend long stretches of time immersed in the Apocalypse world recently.
If he disappeared from reality for too long and couldn’t be reached, suspicion would surely fall upon him.
