Chapter 106: Overpowered Gear
According to our intelligence, the route of this operation has now been firmly confirmed. Twelve jihad operatives will gather in Tarim City to carry out a terrorist attack. Our objective is to eliminate them all before they can enter the city. Not a single one is to get away. In addition, the local armed police detachment will fully support this operation. All of you straighten up and stop embarrassing the War God Squad." Wei Boyang glanced at Qin Yang and the others, who were lounging around lazily, and could not help but harden his tone.
But the people from the Sun Umbrella Team no longer dared to utter a single unnecessary word.
They did not even dare to look at them with contempt.
These guys were simply too freakish. Freakish to the point that the assault tactics they had once been proud of were nothing but a joke in their eyes; freakish to the point that no matter how carefully they concealed themselves, the enemy would still discover their exact position. Especially Qin Yang: his strikes were utterly unruly, yet every blow was lethal. In single-combat, he had defeated eight opponents in a row. He was, without question, a super-freak.
"Understood." Zhou Qi nodded with rare seriousness.
Only then did Wei Boyang's expression ease a little. He checked the time and said, "Your weapons have arrived."
"Huh?" The others were stunned. What was going on? They were already fully armed. Could there still be more equipment?
Cheng Mu laughed. "Finally, I can ditch these little toys. Come on, take us to the armory. I want to see whether the babies are pretty."
The group followed an orderly with great excitement. The Sun Umbrella Team, too curious to hold back, trailed after them. When they reached the armory, their eyes instantly went wide. The first thing they saw was a cannon?
"NTW-20 sniper rifle! My God, the goddess of my dreams!" One member of the Sun Umbrella Team could not help exclaiming in surprise. Looking down at the W03 sniper rifle in his hands, the 12.7-millimeter caliber he had once been so proud of instantly seemed worthless by comparison. The NTW-20 had a 20-millimeter bore, measured a full 1.7 meters in length, and the barrel alone was one meter long. Its maximum effective range exceeded 1,500 meters; no one would doubt that a round from it could easily smash the head of every enemy in a line. And when they looked at the ammunition in the box, rounds even more terrifying than grenades, everyone swallowed hard.
Qin Yang took up the sniper rifle, a sly, dark smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
He was not trained as a sniper, but his marksmanship was more than enough. As for experience? Do not ever talk to Qin Yang about experience. Who knew how that bastard always managed to know where anyone was hiding, no matter how secret the place?
Zhou Qi's weapon setup was more conventional, though still not to be underestimated. Instead of the Type 95 rifle, he had chosen a specially modified AK-47, fitted with an optical scope on top. As he checked the gun, he said to the few dumbfounded men, "Are you idiots? The weather on the Xinjiang border in February is brutal. The more delicate a weapon is, the more likely it is to malfunction. And you're still trying to play the high-tech crowd at a time like this?"
"Damn it." Everyone cursed in unison.
The rest of the gear had not changed much: tactical pistols, shotguns, things of that sort. As for the combat knives, each one was different. The Sun Umbrella Team could not help but be awed. A blade was indeed a formidable close-quarters weapon, but when they saw the specially made knives in the hands of those men, much of their confidence vanished at once. Cheng Mu's Vanguard Tiger Fang, for instance, was enlarged and thickened, with many blood grooves faintly visible along the blade.
The most striking of all, however, was the Steel Eagle combat knife carried by War God Squad member Jiang Chi. Its spine had reverse saw teeth, and the curved blade ended in an exquisitely shaped point that was exceptionally sharp, capable of piercing a man's body armor with ease and even sawing through bone.
After Qin Yang put away the sniper rifle, he did not pick up any of the other weapons and simply waited.
When everyone had finished equipping themselves, Cheng Mu rubbed his hands together and said excitedly, "Is it here? Finally here."
Only then did the Sun Umbrella Team notice that he was not carrying a rifle at all; he had only a few tactical pistols hanging from his body. Then, when two soldiers carefully carried down an M134 Minigun, the Sun Umbrella Team was left utterly stunned. Could anyone really carry this thing into battle?
Cheng Mu laughed heartily and lifted the Minigun with ease, as though it weighed nothing. Licking his lips, he looked at the rows of ammunition as dense as tiger fangs, draped the belts over his body, and looked every bit like Schwarzenegger. Of course, he was a little smaller in build, but among the War God Squad he was the most powerfully built, and once kitted out he looked like a black bear.
"Where is my blade?" Qin Yang looked around but could not find his melee weapon, and called out in annoyance.
"Right here." A soldier carefully carried over a box and set it down in front of Qin Yang. Qin Yang grinned, then opened the case with obvious satisfaction.
Three weapons.
First was a Damascus scimitar, patterned with the famed Uzi steel motif. Several wave-like lines ran across the blade, making the entire weapon look like a stairway to heaven. On the hilt, a vividly lifelike wolf's head lent the scimitar an even fiercer air. It sat naturally in the hand and was then tucked into Qin Yang's waist.
Next, he drew out a second scimitar. This one was silver-white from guard to tip, without any pattern at all, its cold stillness enough to make anyone who saw it shiver.
But the one that left everyone most speechless was the third.
A saber more than a meter long. It was one of the classic Tang-era blade types, the origin of later Japanese swords. Tang blades were the pinnacle of China's sword and saber craftsmanship. Although the original techniques had long since been lost, that did not mean they could no longer be made. Qin Yang's blade had been specially forged from premium steel, hammered and tempered through countless blows. Wei Boyang had gone to great lengths and pulled many strings to obtain it from a friend who collected such weapons.
He drew the saber. The blade was a grayish white, yet gave off no reflection. It was so sharp that anyone could feel, just by looking at it, that Qin Yang's Tang blade could slice a man into pieces with ease.
"Qin Yang, aren't you taking this a little too far?" Dongfang Hao said with a laugh. "What, you think you're going to a martial arts tournament or something?"
"Tang blades were originally military weapons. They only slowly became display pieces and collectibles over the course of a thousand years." Qin Yang swished the blade in his hand and said, "If you don't like it, we can compare."
"Forget it. I still want to live two more years." Dongfang Hao refused at once.
Qin Yang rolled his eyes, then carefully strapped the blade onto his back. If not for the modern gear on his body, he really might have looked like a warrior from the Sui and Tang dynasties.
"Your crossbow."
At that moment, Zhou Qi tossed over a bag. Qin Yang took it, pulled out the crossbow inside, and chuckled to himself. This was a killer weapon for assassination: silent and deadly, one arrow enough to end a life. After using it so many times, he had gradually come to love this extraordinarily powerful cold weapon. In the quiver were eighteen black-feathered arrows.
"I say, aren't you a bit out of date?" Cheng Mu could not help teasing him. "You think you can go fight people armed with just a knife and a crossbow, up against their rifles and artillery?"
"If you have a problem with it, why don't we go to the training ground and settle it? The power of this crossbow can easily punch through a twenty-centimeter wall and sink straight into your skull." Qin Yang said with a cold smile.
At that, Cheng Mu finally shut his mouth.
