Chapter Ninety-One: Slay the One Who Shot the Arrow in Secret
When the police rushed into the courtyard, they found only Wang Yue’s body.
Qin Yang had vanished without a trace. They searched for a full day, yet found not the slightest clue.
As for Wang Yue’s death, Qin Xiao could only sigh helplessly and send the body back to Qin Ye’s family, knowing that no amount of comfort would be of any use now.
At the county police bureau, Jiang Nanyan listened to the report from his subordinates about what had happened that day, his brow faintly furrowed.
The soldier who had served as the crossbow sniper stepped forward and said in a low voice, “Qin Yang is furious. I suggest we cancel the operation.”
“Hm?” Jiang Nanyan frowned and waved a hand. “We have already come this far. There is absolutely no room for cancellation. Keep investigating. Tomorrow is the last day. I want Qin Yang brought in and made to surrender.”
The soldier’s lips twitched, but he could only obey.
Yet that day, the leap Qin Yang made while holding Wang Yue’s body would not leave his mind. He also felt a deep self-reproach. He had never imagined that a woman could burst out with such speed at that moment, beyond all calculation. Even less had he expected Qin Yang’s skill to be so fierce that he would not dare to underestimate him. As a soldier, he was always prepared for danger, but this time he felt all his calculations had utterly failed.
A crisis. A crisis unlike any before.
Clearly, he should not have been able to appear at all, yet he still felt that overwhelming, inescapable danger everywhere around him.
“Could it be that this time there is no escape from fate?”
Looking up at the starry sky, a shooting star faintly streaked across the heavens.
Inside a dark, abandoned factory, Qin Yang dragged out a box from a hidden compartment. It had been prepared for him by Ji Liehu, for the greatest of dangers. Originally Qin Yang had thought he would never need it, but now it seemed everything had already gone off course.
When he opened the box, a set of deadly weapons came into view. In his black eyes, a ghostly flame seemed to burn on and on, and hatred had already sunk into his very bones.
A Nepalese kukri, two automatic pistols, a suppressed handgun, an assault rifle, four high-explosive grenades, ample ammunition, a crossbow, and twelve feathered arrows. These had all been items Ji Liehu had hidden during his days in the underworld, and they had never had much use. This time, because Qin Yang was venturing into danger alone, Ji Liehu did not dare let his own brother be put at risk. So, gritting his teeth and ignoring Liu Long and the others’ objections, he sent these supplies to Phoenix County in the hope that they might be useful at the most critical moment. Of course, Ji Liehu could never have foreseen that the plan would change so drastically, and that Qin Yang would launch a counterattack.
After strapping all the weapons onto himself, Qin Yang had no intention of skulking about like a rat any longer. He would charge in openly, armed to the teeth.
“I sent her soul to hell,” the steward said softly. “If you truly have filial piety, then raise the level of hell as quickly as possible and strive to open the reincarnation system soon, so you can send your mother on her way.”
“Can she be brought back to life?” Qin Yang asked coldly.
“Yes, but only at the fifth level of hell, and the body must be completely intact. But clearly, that is impossible.”
The steward did not want to crush him, but the truth was just that.
Qin Yang nodded silently.
He got into a prearranged old black Santana and drove straight toward the police family compound, fully armed. It was a strike made by chance and calculation alike. Who could have imagined that this fellow would dare to go straight for the police headquarters at a time like this?
Zhao Debiao’s home was in the first building of the police residential compound. It was already past eleven, with hardly any pedestrians around. Qin Yang easily knocked out the guard at the gate, destroyed all the surveillance systems in the residential area, and went to the first building. He knocked on the door. When it opened, a middle-aged woman in her forties stood there, looking rather displeased.
“Who are you? Do you know what time it is?”
What greeted her was the dark muzzle of a gun.
The woman was so frightened that she trembled all over. She did not dare make a sound. Once inside, she shut the door properly, and then heard Zhao Debiao’s voice ask, “Who is it?”
“Get him out here,” Qin Yang said indifferently.
The woman swallowed hard and stammered, “Zhao Debiao, Zhao Debiao, come out.”
“What is it now?” Zhao Debiao came out of the bedroom in his pajamas, grumbling. “Do you know I’m exhausted today? Didn’t I tell you to send them away? Such trouble.”
But when Zhao Debiao reached the living room, he saw Qin Yang standing there, his body covered in killing weapons. All the words in his mouth froze at once. Trembling, he said, “Y-you, you, how—”
“Where is Wang Zhitao?” Qin Yang asked coldly.
“I, I—”
Bang.
A bullet struck the wall beside Zhao Debiao, so close it sent him convulsing with terror. He stumbled and fell to the floor, trembling as he said, “At, at Sunshine Entertainment.”
“Who started this operation?” Qin Yang continued.
“A man named Jiang Nanyan. I only know he’s from the national security bureau.”
Zhao Debiao did not hide a thing. He told everything honestly. When he was done, he still looked at Qin Yang hopefully. “You, please spare us. We—”
“You think I’m dreaming?”
From beginning to end, Qin Yang’s voice remained cold and emotionless. His hand was just as merciless. A bullet smashed into Zhao Debiao’s head, and the gruesome sight of skull and blood bursting apart actually scared the woman so badly that she fainted on the spot.
Qin Yang took a syringe from his bag and injected it into the woman’s vein. This had been given to him by Yu Wen Rounu after she could not bear his icy attitude. It could plunge a person into mental confusion and erase all memory.
Rolling his neck, Qin Yang walked out of the house. Then he drove toward Sunshine Entertainment, while using a temporary phone number to send Ji Liehu a text message, asking him to investigate Jiang Nanyan’s background. Ji Liehu did not know what had happened here, but after receiving Qin Yang’s message, he immediately set about doing it.
Meanwhile, Qin Yang drove to Sunshine Entertainment.
This place was a den of mixed crowds, full of local thugs hanging around the area, like a dance club on the edge of the countryside. Amid the racket, vulgar language and lewd gestures filled the air. Dressed in a long coat, all his weapons were hidden, so no one noticed anything suspicious about him, and no one paid him any mind. By the time Qin Yang went straight up to the third floor and pushed open the door, he saw the fat man Wang Zhitao occupying the seats meant for two people, his arms wrapped around a woman made up in garish colors. Several thugs nearby, seeing a stranger enter, immediately began cursing.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
Four shots, four bullets, and the four of them lost their lives with terrifying ease. The gaudily made-up woman tried to run, but Qin Yang knocked her unconscious with a single punch. Looking at Wang Zhitao, whose face had gone pale and whose whole body was drenched in cold sweat, too terrified to even breathe, Qin Yang’s eyes flashed with killing intent. Without giving Wang Zhitao any chance to speak, a crossbow bolt instantly pierced straight through his huge fleshy face. The pain made him want to scream, but no sound came out.
Qin Yang found a few ropes nearby, probably used for some S and M game, and tied him up tightly, ignoring his pleading eyes. Then he took four bottles of gasoline from the pockets of his coat and poured them over Wang Zhitao.
Woo-woo-woo.
Wang Zhitao struggled, but it was useless.
Qin Yang lit a cigarette and sat opposite him. “Actually, if you had been more obedient, I would have forgotten you. You would still be one of the little tyrants of Phoenix County. But you chose not to listen.”
Taking a deep drag, Qin Yang went on, “Zhao Debiao is already dead. You won’t be lonely.”
Woo-woo-woo.
Still only silent struggles.
Qin Yang shook his head. He injected the unconscious woman with a dose of medicine and left her in a place beyond the reach of the flames. Then he flicked the cigarette butt onto Wang Zhitao. The roaring fire erupted at once. Qin Yang locked the door from the outside, and the noise beyond it completely drowned out the sounds within. After that, he opened the window at the end of the corridor and jumped out.
But just as he landed, he suddenly saw more than ten people emerging from the darkness in the corner. Some held iron bars, some held daggers, and among them were several quite capable fighters. They looked at Qin Yang with cold smiles.
“Tell us where Liu Molan is, and we’ll spare you. I know you can fight, but this time we—”
“We what?”
Qin Yang lifted the assault rifle in his hands and looked at those dozen or so men, whose faces had already gone pale, then said lightly, “Let’s see?”
When they looked at the devastating firepower in his hands, then at the sticks and knives in theirs, one of them swallowed and said, “This isn’t fair.”
“I think so too,” Qin Yang said coldly. “But nothing is fair. I can only do this.”
Bang, bang, bang.
Bullets burst forth without warning. None of those men had imagined Qin Yang would open fire so crazily. There was almost nowhere to dodge. One after another they were struck by the fierce bullets, blood flying everywhere, severed limbs scattered across the ground.
When Qin Yang walked back to the front of Sunshine Entertainment and got into his car, he saw more than ten men behind him getting out of vehicles with guns in hand. One of them shouted, “Qin Yang, come out and surrender. Otherwise we’ll open fire.”
Pop.
He pulled the pin on a fragmentation grenade and tossed it backhanded. None of them had thought that bastard would throw a grenade. By the time they realized it, it was already too late. The true horror of the fragmentation grenade lay in the sharp metal shards inside it. Driven outward by the blast wave, they would tear through everything around them. Even if the explosion did not kill you, those fragments would turn you into a sieve.
The fierce blast woke everyone lost in the gaudy and drunken haze.
The towering flames made them instantly understand that terror attacks were not merely images in the news.
“Who are we killing next?” the steward asked.
“Kill the bastard who fired the cold arrow.”
“Even if you kill him, you still can’t absorb him. After he dies, he’ll become a third-level undead.” The steward sounded rather regretful, and what he regretted was not a life lost, but the fact that it could not be absorbed. “His strength is decent. It would be a pity not to absorb him. Still, if you had the strength of the third level of hell, your mother would not have died at his hands.”
“Then give him a jar of black dog’s blood.”
Inside the jade pendant, Yu Wen Rounu let out a soft sigh.
