Mu Su was locked in the cage beside Zhou Tian. After the energy construct left, Zhou Tian stepped into Mu Su’s cage.

The instant he saw Zhou Tian, Mu Su’s eyes flew wide with fury. He did not even care how Zhou Tian had gotten in; he launched himself from the spot and charged straight at him, none of that cold, distant air he had carried the past few days.

“Calm down,” Zhou Tian said helplessly.

Because the cage suppressed the use of supernatural power, Mu Su was not especially fast. Zhou Tian simply vanished and reappeared elsewhere.

Mu Su, his long hair loose around him and his hands filthy with mud, seemed not to hear him at all. He fixed his gaze on Zhou Tian, shifted direction, and pounced again. Though deprived of supernatural aid, his foundation was solid, and there was still something of a tiger striking its prey in the move.

Unfortunately, he had run into Zhou Tian. Another instant later, Zhou Tian flashed out of the cage. Mu Su struck empty air, then stood there breathing hard, his body marked with many injuries, likely caused by some kind of power that had not healed even now.

Zhou Tian pointed to his own head and pressed his hand downward, signaling for him to calm himself. He waited another quarter of an hour or so. Seeing that Mu Su seemed to have truly settled down, he sat on the ground and closed his eyes.

When Zhou Tian entered Mu Su’s cage again, he gave an awkward smile.

“Captain Mu Su, I never expected our next meeting to be here. Fate really is a marvelous thing.”

Mu Su did not open his eyes. Afraid that the moment he saw Zhou Tian’s face he would lose control of his anger, he clenched his fists and let out a cold snort.

“Thanks to Young Master Scythe, I’m no longer a captain.”

He even stressed the word “Scythe.”

“Is that so? Well, that’s wonderful. How could a man as heroic and outstanding as Mu Su be confined to a captain’s post?” Zhou Tian said in a tone of earnest concern.

Veins bulged on Mu Su’s forehead. He could not take it anymore. How could there be such a shameless person in this world?

“Is there something wrong with your brain? Why did you make such a scene at the gates of the Central Cathedral? You... you’re simply unreasonable!”

Mu Su’s face flushed red as he rose from the ground, furious to the point of being unable to find the words.

He had suffered terribly. What had he done to deserve this? He had been sitting at home minding his own business, practicing martial techniques, when a group of people suddenly stormed in and beat him without warning. He had thought that followers of the Evil God had already broken into Seler City and was about to rise in resistance, only to be accused of colluding with heretics.

Only after much confusion did he learn that it was Zhou Tian, that pit of trouble, who had made a scene at the Central Cathedral and even claimed to be a believer of the Voodoo Church. Following that trail, the Church of the Holy Deity found Mu Su. Not only had he brought the man, he had also had dealings with him throughout Seler City.

At that point, how could the Church of the Holy Deity possibly hold back? So it was you, you bastard, bringing enemies here from the inside! He was beaten within an inch of his life and told they would deal with him later.

“When you told me the location of the Inquisition, you should have guessed I was going to make trouble. Besides, you lied to me once too. You said the Inquisition was beneath the church, but no matter how I look at this place, it doesn’t seem to be underground.”

Zhou Tian muttered under his breath.

“You’re saying this is my fault?” Mu Su’s voice rose several degrees. When he had told Zhou Tian, he had also guessed he would cause trouble, but he had assumed it would be done in secret, with some careful planning. Who could have imagined he would be so crude about it?

“My fault... my fault. I didn’t think it through,” Zhou Tian admitted honestly. After all, the man had been kind enough to help him investigate. Even if the information was wrong, the intention had been sincere.

“But look at it another way—you’re still alive, aren’t you? That’s already a blessing in misfortune.”

“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t even have had that misfortune. And now everyone thinks I have betrayed the Lord. How am I supposed to face my parents and friends?”

Mu Su’s spirits sank.

“Oh, stop pretending you still care about the Lord. You’re a believer in name only. If you truly cared about your Lord, you wouldn’t have helped me look into the location of the Inquisition.”

Zhou Tian curled his lip.

Mu Su’s lips moved as if he wanted to argue, but in the end he only closed them in defeat. Zhou Tian was not wrong at all.

Ever since he was young, the greatest thing in their household had never been his parents, nor even himself, but some vague and formless lord. He did not know why, but seeing the attitudes of the people around him, he did not dare ask.

Still, there had always been one question he wanted to ask.

Why?

On what grounds?

“Haha, interesting. A member of the Church of the Holy Deity who does not believe in the Lord of the Holy Deity.”

A laugh came from nearby. Anduin looked in their direction; he had been listening the entire time to the conversation between Zhou Tian and Mu Su.

“Who is he?” Mu Su asked with a frown.

“A fallen demigod,” Zhou Tian said.

Mu Su’s expression changed to one of astonishment. A god? This was the first time he had truly seen one, even if only a demigod.

Zhou Tian recounted the information he had just learned, including the situation here and Anduin’s story.

When Mu Su finished listening, the surprise on his face deepened. He stared fixedly at Anduin, at a divine scion, one who carried the bloodline of a god.

“Don’t stare at people like they’re some kind of exhibit. It’s rude,” Zhou Tian said, tugging at Mu Su.

Anduin’s expression stiffened. In truth, I wasn’t bothered at all. But now that you’ve said it, I suddenly feel uncomfortable.

“Where was I just now? Right... what is your purpose?” Zhou Tian recalled the topic that had been interrupted.

“My purpose is simple. I just want to get out of here,” Anduin said plainly.

“You make it sound as easy as drinking soup. I thought this place was really underground, but now I don’t even know where we are, and I’m not getting out myself either,” Zhou Tian scoffed.

He really did sound as if everyone’s purpose were simple.

Anduin did not know what whether this place was underground had to do with Zhou Tian getting out or not, but he still said, “I had already given up hope. There’s no one guarding this place, but the seals on the cage were left by ancient times. They are far beyond what a fallen divine scion like me can break. Then I met you, and you gave me hope. Hope of getting out.”

“Tell me your method,” Zhou Tian said, his interest piqued.

“I can use my divinity to briefly corrupt the energy construct, but it has its own protection mechanism, and I can’t control it. When that happens, the Church of the Holy Deity will certainly send someone down to inspect it. Since it will be one of their own going down, the spatial passage will not open for a moment, but for a long time. That will be your chance to leave.”

“And what about you?” Zhou Tian asked. He would not be foolish enough to think the man had gone to such lengths merely to send him away.

Anduin tore a piece of cloth from his own clothes at random, then bit through his fingertip and squeezed out a drop of blood faintly luminous with gold. The blood fell onto the cloth, instantly dyeing it a strange crimson, like flame scattered with specks of gold.

“Take this cloth and leave Seler City. My followers will find you on their own. Just hand this cloth to them.”
