Chapter 117: Turbulence on a Hitchhike
The smiles on their faces told Zhang Tianwang and Zheng Xiongshi that the Shadow Squad had already taken the lead in the first phase.
Zhang Tianwang sighed lightly and said to his teammate, “Looks like I was right. This kid’s driving skills are really just like those of ‘God of Racing, Ajie.’”
“Ah... how could that be? Could there be some connection between Mo Shu and this Ajie you mentioned?” Zheng Xiongshi asked.
“That’s impossible. Ajie died young—he passed away back in the 1980s. At that time, Mo Shu probably wasn’t even born yet!” Zhang Tianwang recalled and shook his head, dismissing Zheng Xiongshi’s speculation.
From a timeline perspective, Zhang Tianwang’s logic was flawless. Mo Shu and God of Racing Ajie certainly belonged to two completely different eras.
However, Zhang Tianwang was unaware that in this world, there existed a mysterious otherworldly artifact called the “Supreme Racing System.”
With the system, many things were no longer so simple.
Indeed, Mo Shu did not know God of Racing Ajie personally, but the system maiden in his mind found the name strangely familiar.
It seemed that the “peerless predecessor” who once intervened in the ERC and helped Mo Shu activate the Supreme Spirit Ring had mentioned this name before. But so much time had passed that the system maiden wasn’t entirely sure.
In any case, this God of Racing Ajie had little to do with the currently recording show Extreme Partners. The system maiden silently decided to shelve the matter for later and didn’t even discuss it with Mo Shu privately.
Unaware of the system’s fluctuations, Mo Shu was joyfully celebrating the victory hand in hand with the beautiful Lin, as they had earned the privilege to advance to the next stage ten minutes early.
The production team handed a delicate mission card to the Shadow Squad. Eagerly, the two opened it to read.
“Congratulations on your first victory. Please find your own means of transportation to proceed to the Nanshan City Museum to begin the second phase of the mission.
Attention! All transportation provided by the production team is prohibited from this moment on!”
Lin glanced at Mo Shu and said, “You’re from Nanshan, right? This is your turf. What’s the fastest way to the museum? Lead the way!”
Mo Shu’s mind quickly turned. Since the production team’s vehicles were off-limits, the distance from here to the Nanshan Museum was not short, so walking was out of the question.
Shared bicycles were also no good—too tiring to pedal!
As for public transportation, based on his impression of the stop distributions, it didn’t seem very time-efficient either.
That left taxis or private cars willing to give them a ride as the best options for now.
“Let’s go, Senior Lin. Let’s first get out of the farm area and see if any passing cars are willing to give us a lift,” Mo Shu said as he started to jog forward.
But when they reached the outskirts of the farm, they realized they had already arrived at the suburban area near Nanshan. Taxi drivers rarely came here empty, and private cars were even scarcer, with the roads almost cleaner than a mirror.
Steeling himself, Mo Shu thought, “Even a cargo truck would do. As long as we can catch a ride, even if it only gets us to the city’s edge, that’s good enough.”
He dashed to the roadside, looking eagerly for any passing vehicle.
However, two large trucks passed by as if Mo Shu’s waving hand was invisible. One even honked sharply, signaling him to keep clear.
“Mo Shu, hitchhiking is better handled by us women,” Lin smiled, stepping forward and motioning for Mo Shu to step aside.
“All right, then, it’s up to you, Senior,” Mo Shu agreed, thinking it made perfect sense. After all, how many men could refuse the summons of such a stunning beauty as Lin?
After a quiet moment, a silver private car approached from the distance.
This vehicle would certainly be far more comfortable than the cargo trucks before. Mo Shu silently cheered Lin on—this time, they had to make it stop.
Lin, of course, would not miss such a golden opportunity. She extended a graceful leg to the side, gently pressing down with her foot. Her waist curved elegantly as her center of gravity shifted. Then she tossed her silky hair over one shoulder, revealing a slender, sensual neck. A charming smile blossomed across her delicate face.
Mo Shu was dumbfounded. That entire sequence of movements made it seem as though Lin wasn’t standing on a deserted road but before a row of photographers ready to snap pictures and catapult her onto the red carpet.
So professional—no wonder she was a film queen. Even on this deserted highway, Lin transformed the scene to feel like a film festival premiere. Simply flagging down a car carried the unmistakable aura of a superstar striking a pose.
Sure enough, Lin’s pose worked. The silver car screeched to a halt by the roadside right in front of them.
“Hurry, get in!” Mo Shu quickly strode forward and opened the door for Lin.
Playing along with the act, since Lin had brought the atmosphere of an awards ceremony, Mo Shu had to match her, acting as a proper European gentleman escort.
Lin smiled brightly and nodded at Mo Shu in thanks. Just as her elegant leg crossed the threshold into the car, the driver suddenly shouted excitedly.
“Mo God!!!”
Damn it, Lin thought with a pang of jealousy. Could it be that the driver stopped not for her, the dazzling beauty, but for this door-holding rascal?
“Mo God? Is that really you, Mo God? I thought I recognized you from afar, and as I got closer, it really seems to be you!” the driver said, carefully scrutinizing Mo Shu with uncontained joy.
“Uh... yes, it’s me. Could you please help us get to the Nanshan City Museum?” Mo Shu noticed Lin’s displeasure and felt guilty for stealing the spotlight from the beauty at such a moment.
“Sure thing! Please buckle up. Would you like me to drive faster or slower?” The driver’s enthusiasm sharply contrasted with the icy cold Lin, making Mo Shu hesitate to speak, fearful of embarrassing his senior.
“Not too fast, not too slow—just steady,” Lin said coldly, cutting off the silence.
Only then did the driver take a serious look at the female passenger. She seemed familiar, but he just couldn’t place her. After a moment’s struggle, he stammered, “Miss, are you filming a TV show? You also look like a celebrity—are you perhaps...”
Lin pursed her lips and waited patiently for the driver to say her name.
Mo Shu, on the other hand, was on pins and needles. He knew Lin’s strong-willed nature well. If the driver recognized only Mo Shu but couldn’t recall the name of this big star, and Lin got jealous later, she’d rip him to shreds.
“Uh, uh... some beautiful lady...? Sorry, let me think a bit more,” the driver said anxiously, unable to recall the surname that was on the tip of his tongue.
“Oh! Yes, yes! Zhang... you’re Zhang...” The driver was about to make a slip.
“Lin!!!” Mo Shu quickly interrupted, correcting him and winking to signal the driver.
“Oh... oh...” The driver caught Mo Shu’s hint, rolled his eyes three times, then smoothed things over: “Mo God, no need to remind me. I know. She’s the lead actress in Director Zhang’s award-winning film, Lin Meinu, the big star Lin.”
