Chapter 116: Multiple Choice Question (Bonus Chapter for 115 Diamonds)
Liang Jinshang opened her mouth, but the words she wanted to say to plead for Liang Xizhou died on her lips. Anyone with a modicum of sense would know that speaking up for him now would only add fuel to the fire. So, she kept silent.
After a long pause, her gaze drifted involuntarily to the wound on Shang Yucheng’s hand. The petite nurse, whose head barely reached his shoulder, was carefully cradling his hand to apply medicine. From Liang Jinshang’s angle, the wound did not look large, but it was deep, which explained why it wouldn't stop bleeding.
"Mr. Shang... I have dressed your wound for now, but you will still need to go to the hospital for a few stitches."
If one were to judge by appearance alone, a man like Shang Yucheng possessed the qualities to make any woman fall for him at first sight. The young nurse, who looked as if she had just graduated from university, wore her shyness and starry-eyed longing plainly on her face. Liang Jinshang knew she should show concern for his injury, but the pink bubbles of infatuation radiating from the nurse were so obvious, and as she wrapped the gauze, she recited every instruction needed. She had already said everything there was to say.
Liang Jinshang felt listless, sensing there was no need for her to chime in. At this moment, she had nothing to say that Shang Yucheng would care to hear. She pressed her lips together and remained silent.
The men had already lifted Liang Xizhou from the bed and onto a stretcher. Liang Jinshang cast one last pleading look at Shang Yucheng, but his stern face held only the cold resolve of a man who keeps his word. She knew there was no point in begging him anymore. Without a word, she followed the men until Liang Xizhou was loaded into the ambulance.
Outside, a fine mist of rain had begun to fall. Shang Yucheng’s driver, Xiao Wang, had been waiting downstairs and stepped forward with an umbrella. "Mr. Shang, let me take you to the hospital to get that bandaged."
Meanwhile, Liang Jinshang stood silently, intending to follow the ambulance. In front of Shang Yucheng, her spine could be soft—so soft that he found her intoxicating—or it could be rigid, so rigid that she could never bow her head.
Shang Yucheng took the umbrella from Xiao Wang and stood by the ambulance. "Get out of the car."
Liang Jinshang kept her head down, pretending not to hear. The sedative would only last for a few hours. If Liang Xizhou woke up and found himself locked away in a sanitarium, just as he had feared—"dragged away like an animal after being drugged"—she couldn't imagine what he might do. Perhaps, under the double blow dealt to him by Nan Yi today, Liang Xizhou might truly do something that would leave their parents in lifelong regret. At the thought of this, she couldn't help but hate Shang Yucheng for his ruthless methods.
"Jin, while I am still being polite, you should know when to stop."
Hearing the words "know when to stop," a hint of a smile finally appeared on Liang Jinshang’s pale face, though it was filled with sarcasm. "So, this is you being polite? That truly is a blessing for the Liang family!"
Shang Yucheng looked at her, his expression as dark as still water. His palm throbbed with pain; though he was not a man to fear pain, his nerves were certainly registering it. This woman seemed entirely indifferent to the fact that he had been injured while saving her, let alone that they were currently in a relationship.
"If you don't get out now, I will extend the fees for fifty years," Shang Yucheng said with profound indifference. "Then you really should take a good look at him, as it will likely be the last time you see him in this lifetime."
Liang Jinshang stood up abruptly. The sense of powerlessness and oppression she felt was no better than what Liang Xizhou must have felt under the influence of the sedative. She stepped out of the vehicle, and the ambulance roared away right before her eyes.
Xiao Wang held the umbrella high, wishing he could turn invisible. But the two of them were standing too far apart; if he covered one, the other would be left in the rain.
"Mr. Shang..."
Shang Yucheng commanded, "Give the umbrella to her."
Though Xiao Wang was worried about his boss’s wound in the rain, he could not disobey. Fortunately, Shang Yucheng had no intention of lingering for a dramatic scene; once Liang Jinshang took the umbrella, he turned and got into his car.
"I’ll give you one night to think it over—whether you go find Liang Xizhou or come to me," Shang Yucheng said, his profile calm and bearing the air of one who reigns supreme. "This is a multiple-choice question with only one answer."
Liang Jinshang stood straight in the rain. The black Bentley sped away, leaving her behind.
