Chapter 12: Children Are Naive, Parents Worry Themselves Sick (Welcome, Friends, to Explore the New World Together)

Liu Guoxiang was so shocked when she saw the things on the bed that her mouth dropped open, but her hands were quicker than her mind, covering her mouth just in time to stifle the almost-escaped exclamation. Her heart raced faster than ever, yet she moved with deliberate slowness, pulling the thin quilt over the objects to cover them.
To prevent anyone else from discovering these things, she hastily lowered the mosquito net and, holding her daughter close, stepped away from the bed.
“Mom… um…” Yirongkun wanted to share what she had just ‘seen’ while sleeping, but her mother put a finger to her lips and whispered for silence.
Then, lowering her voice, she cautioned, “Little one, you must never talk about what happens while you’re sleeping when you’re outside, alright?”
“And don’t mention the things on the bed either. Do you understand?”
Liu Guoxiang was genuinely frightened by the sudden appearance of those things around her daughter. Holding her little girl, her legs felt weak.
Afraid she might lose her grip and drop the child, she sat down on the bed’s footboard, carefully placing her daughter down while still wrapping her arms tightly around the small body.
Meanwhile, the interstellar live broadcast chat was buzzing:
“Oh my, what did the ancestor just see? That reaction was lightning fast!”
“The room’s too dark; I couldn’t see what was on the little ancestor’s bed.”
“The main thing is that the ancestor acted so quickly, covering it up immediately. Otherwise, we could have taken screenshots and analyzed it.”
“This must be the legendary limit of a mother’s body unleashed for her child.”
“Why is the ancestor so scared? Look, her face is still pale, and she’s sweating cold sweat.”
“Yeah, judging by how the ancestors are dressed, it’s not warm there, yet this ancestor is sweating all over her forehead.”
“Who knows? Let’s watch patiently and find out.”
The lively chatter on the StarNet was not within their mother-daughter focus.
Liu Guoxiang sat on the footboard holding her daughter for a long while before she calmed down somewhat.
She let out a long breath, ignoring her daughter’s explanations about where those things came from, only repeatedly instructing her not to tell anyone about them.
Feeling her mother’s mood was unsettled, Yirongkun nervously reached out, imitating her parents and older siblings, and gently touched her mother’s forehead.
Then, with a serious look, she asked, “Mom, are you cold? Do you have a fever?”
“Mom’s fine.”
Liu Guoxiang held her soft little hand, completely relaxing, and her face blossomed into a radiant smile.
Softly, she said, “As long as my youngest doesn’t tell anyone about these things, Mom will be fine.”
“Oh.”

Though she didn’t understand why her mother forbade her from speaking about it, she had been a well-behaved child since birth and wouldn’t go against her mother’s wishes.
“Good girl.”
Liu Guoxiang exhaled again, relieved that her daughter had listened. She stood up and took her small hand in hers.
“Come on, let’s go outside and help Mom pick peanuts.”
“Okay.”
Yirongkun obediently agreed but hesitated before whispering, “But Mom, the teacher told me to do my homework. When will I do it?”
Hearing that, Liu Guoxiang crouched down, looked into her daughter’s eyes, and lowered her voice a bit more.
“My dear, where is this teacher you mentioned?”
She asked while scanning the room once more.
The dim room showed no trace of anything unusual.
“The teacher is inside the bucket. When I sleep, the bucket makes me study, and then the teacher appears! The teacher has taught me so much, and I’ve learned it all!”
Yirongkun proudly lifted her head, reciting: “The initial consonants are: b, p, m, f, d, t, n, l…”
The child immediately recited the knowledge she had just acquired.
Meanwhile, viewers in the live broadcast chat commented:
“Wow, isn’t this the basic knowledge our ancient ancestors learned?”
“They’re learning it well now too. It’s just that the little ones today have strong enough mental powers, so we directly impart these fundamentals to them.”
“That’s right. So during the little ancestor’s nap, she went into the system space to study?”
“That’s great! The more comprehensive the little ancestor’s knowledge, the sooner she’ll notice the messages we send in the chat.”
“I really hope the little ancestor learns to read the live chat comments soon and interacts with us.”
“That way, we can exchange food with her.”
Hearing her daughter recite the pinyin so fluently, Liu Guoxiang took a deep breath to interrupt and asked, “What does this teacher look like?”
As she spoke, she felt a chill on her scalp, her gaze still sweeping the room.
She had the eerie sense that something unseen was quietly watching her family and her little girl.
“The teacher is very tall, speaks so nicely, and is very pretty,” Yirongkun described the teacher as best as she could with her limited language.
“The teacher knows so much.”
“The teacher also praised little sister for being great.”
“My little one is really amazing.”
Seeing her daughter’s proud expression, Liu Guoxiang’s heart melted completely. She reached out and hugged the little body.
Then, whispering in her ear, she reminded, “Mommy’s good girl, you mustn’t tell anyone about this, okay?”

“When second sister and third brother come home from school, you can do your homework with them, alright?”
Yirongkun nodded vigorously. “Okay, okay, I won’t tell anyone. I’ll wait for second sister and third brother to come home to do homework together.”
Seeing how obedient her daughter was, Liu Guoxiang’s heart softened even more. She held the little body close and kissed her.
“You really are Mommy’s good girl.”
Yirongkun giggled from the kiss, wriggling in her mother’s arms.
Liu Guoxiang laughed too, and their laughter echoed warmly throughout the room.
After laughing, Liu Guoxiang took her daughter’s small hand again.
“Let’s go pick peanuts outside.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Yirongkun responded and followed her mother out of the room.
Entering the main hall, they saw their aunt, cousins, and sisters-in-law skillfully picking peanuts and chatting cheerfully.
Each basket beside them was already more than half full, clearly everyone had been busy during Yirongkun’s half-hour nap.
At some point, a gentle drizzle began again, and rainwater trickled down the roof tiles.
“Little aunt is here!”
Yi Shichun and Yi Shitian, who were playing by the sunken gutter, smiled and greeted their little aunt.
Yirongkun slipped out of her mother’s hand and ran toward her nephew and niece.
“Chun Chun, Tian Tian, you’re up!”
“Mm-hmm,” the siblings nodded enthusiastically.
“Little aunt, here.”
Shichun handed over his muddy little hand.
Yirongkun looked and saw her niece holding a half-eaten sweet potato slice, covered in dirt.
Had this been before yesterday, she probably would have taken it and eaten it right away.
But today, seeing such food, she couldn’t bring herself to eat it.
So she shook her head, “I don’t want it. Chun Chun, you should wash it before eating, okay?”
Seeing her daughter playing with the grandchildren, Liu Guoxiang no longer felt restrained and returned to her place, quickly picking the peanuts in front of her.
The sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and daughters-in-law all smiled and chatted with Liu Guoxiang.
“Little mother, little sister’s health looks so much better now.”
