By the street.
Duman shyly kissed Xufei on the cheek.
Xufei even felt her lips trembling intensely.
Seeing Duman’s face flushed red like a ripe apple, he smiled and gently let go of her.
“Tonight, we…”
“We’ll have something nice to eat,” Duman quickly interrupted him.
After speaking, she pulled Xufei along.
“Come on, let’s go buy some groceries.”
Xufei looked helpless.
He knew Duman had guessed what he wanted.
Being tugged by Duman, Xufei gave a wry smile and shook his head.
The two of them went to the market.
They bought pig trotters, which Xu Qing loved, and braised pork, Xu Yun’s favorite.
The two returned home, chatting and laughing.
Duman cooked while Xufei helped beside her.
They remained enveloped in an indescribable joy.
In Duman’s heart, it seemed her life was slowly changing.
And the man beside her,
seemed increasingly unlike the Xufei she once knew.
Even thinking about it made her smile quietly to herself.
Beside her,
Xufei noticed the smile playing at her lips,
and felt an unspoken sense of accomplishment.
“Sister-in-law, why are you two so happy today?”
Suddenly, Xu Qing appeared at the kitchen doorway.
Beside her was little Xu Yun.
“Brother, sister-in-law, what’s going on? I just heard you both laughing in the room. Is there some good news for our family?”
Xufei walked over to Xu Yun.
He reached out and ruffled Xu Yun’s hair.
“You kiddo, you really guessed it right. There is good news for our family.”
Xu Qing paused in surprise.
“You two… expecting?”
Xufei was caught off guard by the question.
Then he glanced awkwardly at Duman behind him and said, “Not that, but I’ll announce it during dinner.”
Soon after,
Duman brought the braised pig trotters and pork to the table.
Xufei sent Xu Yun to the small shop to buy his favorite soda.
He poured himself a glass of wine.
Looking at his family seated before him,
Xufei said, “I have some good news to share with you all about our family.”
“Come on, tell us!”
Xu Yun looked at the braised pork, urging Xufei.
“Hey, don’t be so eager, this meat is all yours,” Xufei teased, making Xu Yun laugh and stick out his tongue.
“Well, I made some money from the TV business. Just now, your sister-in-law and I went and paid off the debts owed to the Du family.”
“Really!”
Xu Qing, knowing what had happened yesterday, happily glanced at Duman.
Seeing Duman nod, she smiled warmly at Xufei.

“Well done, Xufei. You’ve really brought honor to the Xu family this time.”
“When have I ever brought shame to the Xu family?” Xufei replied.
Xu Qing, however, pursed her lips.
“But you, with only ten days left until the college entrance exam, you’d better buckle down and not mess up. Otherwise, how will you face our parents?”
“Don’t worry, I won’t let them down,” Xu Qing said with a smile.
Xufei nodded.
He still had confidence in his younger sister.
Raising his glass,
Xufei said, “Let’s drink to the Xu family!”
Everyone picked up their glasses.
Duman glanced at Xufei and said, “Actually, there’s one more thing. Your case goes to court tomorrow. I wish you all the best.”
She clinked her glass against his.
“Yes, wishing Comrade Xufei all the best tomorrow!”
“Brother, good luck,”
Xu Qing and Xu Yun also clinked their glasses.
The Xu family courtyard seemed unusually lively tonight.
Laughter echoed continuously from within.
...
The next day.
Duman woke early and made a bowl of noodles for Xufei.
“Eat this, and everything will go smoothly today.”
After finishing the noodles, Xufei stepped out.
In front of the courthouse,
Zhang Mingyang had arrived early.
“Third brother,”
Xufei greeted him with a smile.
“Why so cheerful?”
Xufei recounted yesterday’s events to Zhang Mingyang.
“That’s great. Now your sister-in-law won’t have to suffer like before in her family.”
Xufei nodded.
Just then,
Zhang Ze emerged from inside the courthouse.
He waved at Xufei from the stairs.
Xufei hurried up.
“Lawyer Zhang, you’re here so early?”
Zhang Ze’s expression was somewhat unpleasant.
“Yes, I wanted to find out who the opposing counsel is today.”
Noticing his mood, Xufei asked, “What’s wrong?”
Zhang Ze glanced at Xufei and said, “Do you know Chen Yuanding?”
Xufei shook his head.
“He’s a top lawyer from Donghai, known as ‘Donghai’s Number One Lawyer.’ He’s actually my senior from North China University of Political Science and Law.”
Xufei thought for a moment.
He recalled hearing the name Chen during the meeting with Judge Zhao yesterday.
“Is he tough to deal with?”
Zhang Ze nodded.
“It’s nothing, Lawyer Zhang. The outcome doesn’t matter. I believe in your ability.”
“Ability?”

Zhang Ze shook his head helplessly.
“In front of Chen Yuanding, I really don’t have much confidence. But don’t worry, I’ll give it my all.”
Xufei nodded.
“Let’s go in.”
Zhang Ze turned and headed toward Civil Courtroom No. 2.
Inside the courtroom,
a few people were already seated in the gallery.
Xufei entered.
He glanced at the attendees.
Wang Guoqing was surprisingly among them.
Seeing Xufei enter, Director Wang sneered coldly at him.
Among those present were several workers from Workshop One.
They had come specifically for Zhang Dajun.
However,
on the opposite side of the gallery,
Old Liu and An Lao San were also present.
“Brother Liu, Brother An, you came too?”
“Yes, Fei, don’t worry. You’ll be fine.”
Xufei nodded.
He took his place at the defendant’s bench.
Zhang Ze sat beside him.
“Xufei, when it’s your turn to speak, just stick to what really happened at the time,” Zhang Ze advised.
“Understood.”
Xufei was somewhat worried inside.
This top lawyer from Donghai seemed formidable.
Although Xufei still had a trump card up his sleeve, Chen’s strength couldn’t be underestimated.
Uncertainty still lingered.
Bang!
The door to Courtroom No. 2 was pushed open.
Zhang Dajun stood by the door.
He bowed toward the entrance.
“Lawyer Chen, please.”
A man with half-white hair entered.
His face was gaunt, and his hawk-like eyes scanned the courtroom before settling on Zhang Ze.
A cold smirk flickered at the corner of his mouth.
He strode into the courtroom.
Behind him followed a young woman in a suit.
She appeared in her early twenties and was strikingly beautiful.
She was likely Lawyer Chen’s assistant.
When she saw Zhang Ze, for some reason, her expression faltered slightly before deliberately looking away.
Zhang Dajun walked behind them, smiling all the way to the plaintiff’s seat.
The gaunt man now approached the defendant’s bench.
With a mocking smile, he looked at Zhang Ze and said, “Long time no see.”
