Volume One, Chapter 90: She Should Be a Spirit Master
Yes, Xing Le should indeed be a spirit master.
“Xingwan, do you mean that Sister Lele was supposed to be like you? She…” Xu Mingyue struggled to find the right words.
Chi Xingwan replied, “Exactly as you imagine. Judging by the concentration of spiritual energy around her, she should have awakened and become a spirit master ten years ago.”
Xu Mingyue was stunned, never expecting such a possibility.
“What are you talking about? What awakening? What spirit master?” Xing Le’s mother asked, her gaze filled with both skepticism and a faint hope.
Though the exorcism had frightened her terribly, as a mother, she still hoped from the depths of her heart for her daughter to recover.
Chi Xingwan paused and said, “Madam, your daughter is not ill, nor has she been possessed. She is simply affected by something.”
Xing Le’s mother instinctively asked, “How can she return to normal?”
“There is indeed a way, but you must trust us and allow us to take her to a certain place,” Chi Xingwan said.
Xing Le’s mother asked, “Can her father and I accompany her to this place?”
“I’m sorry, but no.”
Xing Le’s mother hesitated. She trusted Xu Mingyue, yet she wondered if Xu Mingyue might be deceived. She couldn’t be sure, nor did she dare hand her daughter over to strangers.
“Thank you, but I need to think about it,” Xing Le’s mother said.
Chi Xingwan did not press her, only saying, “It’s right to discuss it with your family. If you come to a decision, please let me know as soon as possible.”
Xing Le’s mother nodded and took Xing Le home.
Xu Mingyue asked, “Xingwan, where do you intend to take Sister Lele? Is it a place outsiders can’t enter?”
“Yes, no outsiders are allowed. Only spirit masters can go there.”
Chi Xingwan planned to bring Xing Le to Evernight Street. She had once seen a record in the tower’s library: the Spirit Master Association had previously encountered people with leaking spiritual energy, and had methods to help them reclaim it within their bodies.
If Xing Le could awaken, the thing clouding her mind would most likely be destroyed by the sudden surge of spiritual energy within her.
But would Xing Le’s parents truly be willing to entrust her to them?
The next day, Xing Le’s mother came alone to find Chi Xingwan.
“We are all very grateful to you, but after discussing it, we don’t want Lele to fall into danger again. Even if she remains as she is, at least she can go on living. So, I’m sorry, we must decline your offer.”
Chi Xingwan raised her brows, unsurprised.
Xu Mingyue was deeply agitated. “Auntie, please trust them. They won’t let Sister Lele come to harm. They really can save her.”
Xing Le’s mother shook her head. “Mingyue, I know your intentions, but we don’t dare try again.”
Xu Mingyue felt discouraged, suddenly realizing her helplessness. She could do nothing, not even persuade one person.
“I understand. We won’t force you,” Chi Xingwan said.
Xu Mingyue stared at Chi Xingwan in shock, stammering, “But, Xingwan, didn’t we agree to save Sister Lele?”
Chi Xingwan replied calmly, “I do want to save Xing Le, but her family disagrees. We cannot forcibly take her.”
Xu Mingyue knew this was true, yet she was unwilling to accept it.
“But even if I can’t save her, since fate brought us together, I’d like to do something for her. May I visit Xing Le?” Chi Xingwan asked Xing Le’s mother.
Xing Le’s mother hesitated.
Chi Xingwan said softly, “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything. I only wish to give her a protective charm.”
“Very well, please come with me,” Xing Le’s mother said.
Chi Xingwan was to visit next door, with Chu Fangfei and Jin Feng naturally accompanying her, and Xu Mingyue, as the intermediary, joining as well.
The four entered Xing Le’s home. It was the weekend, so Xing Le’s father and younger brother were both at home.
Both eyed the trio behind Xu Mingyue warily.
“Mom, who are these people? How could you bring strangers home so recklessly?” Xing Le’s brother, Xing Liang, was clearly displeased.
Xing Le’s mother said, “Liang, they are Mingyue’s friends. They just want to see Lele, nothing more.”
Still disgruntled, Xing Liang muttered, “What’s there to see?”
Xing Le’s father advised, “Liang, your sister is leaving tomorrow. It’s good for her friends to visit before she goes.”
With both parents speaking, Xing Liang clicked his tongue and didn’t object further.
Xing Le’s mother led them upstairs to Xing Le’s room.
Chi Xingwan looked at Xing Le sitting blankly on the bed. Her gaze was vacant, yet she showed no aggression.
Xu Mingyue saw her like this and felt a tightness in her chest. She asked, “Auntie, Sister Lele is so well-behaved. Is it really necessary to send her to a psychiatric hospital?”
Xing Le’s mother turned her face away. After a long pause, she said, “We don’t want to send Lele to such a place, but we have no choice. We are old now.”
Because they were old, they could only rely on their son, Xing Liang, but he could not accept his sister.
Chi Xingwan said nothing. She approached Xing Le, took out a jade pendant, and placed it around her neck.
At that moment, Xing Le’s eyes suddenly cleared, but only for an instant before dimming again.
Xing Le’s mother saw it and immediately rushed to her side, calling, “Lele, were you well just now? Tell Mommy, did you just look at me?”
Chi Xingwan explained, “This pendant can only reclaim a tiny portion of her spiritual energy, not enough to restore her fully. But as I said yesterday, if you entrust her to us, we can help her recover.”
A clear struggle appeared in Xing Le’s mother’s eyes.
Previously, she had been inclined not to hand her daughter over to strangers, but just now she had truly seen the light return to Xing Le’s gaze.
Even for a fleeting moment, her daughter had looked at her.
From that brief glance, she saw a multitude of emotions—guilt, sorrow, and reluctance.
Reluctance.
Did Lele know she was about to be sent away? Did she know she was going to be abandoned?
The thought pierced Xing Le’s mother’s heart like a needle.
“If… if I give Lele to you, can you really cure her?” Xing Le’s mother asked with difficulty.
Chi Xingwan answered with certainty, “We can.”
“How long will it take?”
Chi Xingwan considered her answer. “I can’t give a precise time, but I am sure it will not exceed ten days.”
Xing Le’s mother wavered. She looked at her daughter, then finally gritted her teeth and said, “I—I agree. I consent to let you take Lele, but you must promise to bring her back safe and sound. Even if you fail, you must return her to us.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a furious voice interrupted, “No, I won’t allow it!”
Xing Liang burst in, his face livid with rage.
