Volume 1, Chapter 44: I Really Am the Heir to the Monarch Group
Tian Nongyu wore a suspicious expression.
How could the future chairman of the Junlin Group be such a young man?
Yet, amidst his suspicion, he sensed an air of supreme authority emanating from this young man.
This presence was definitely something the descendants of the current Eight Elders could never hope to compare with.
It even completely overshadowed them.
At this moment, Qin Haoran, harboring deep resentment, jumped out to mock him.
"Boss Tian, don't listen to his bragging. That watch doesn't belong to him at all."
"Someone clearly delivered it to his house; I saw it with my own eyes. Besides, he's just an ex-con, how could he possibly be the chairman of the Junlin Group?"
"That's right, that's right! I remember now too. Boss Tian, don't be afraid of him. He's just putting on a show," Li Huijun chimed in, gritting her teeth.
Her son had taken a bullet to the thigh, and today she had to use the influence of this heavyweight figure from Shanghai to properly punish him.
"Could it really be identical to what the Ye family boy analyzed?" Tian Nongyu's mind raced, analyzing the situation frantically.
Yan Fengjia was merely keeping the watch temporarily, nothing more.
With that realization, Tian Nongyu no longer felt any apprehension toward the young man. He cast a sideways glance, instinctively releasing his imposing aura of superiority.
He said indifferently, "Since that is the case, then so be it. Let's go."
Watching them walk away, Yan Fengjia furrowed his brow.
He could tell that this old man was likely also a person connected to the Junlin Group.
And his status probably wasn't low either.
On the way back, Tian Nongyu looked at Qin Haoran. "Do you two know who delivered that watch to the Yan family's residence that day?"
The mother and son looked at each other. Qin Haoran smiled and said, "We do know, but... Boss Tian, you see, the two of us have helped you out so much, surely you can't just..."
"That's right, my son is still injured after all," Li Huijun added, cooperating with him.
"Name your price," Tian Nongyu said indifferently.
"I want three million," Qin Haoran said without a care.
Beside him, Li Huijun hurriedly pulled her son back and said excitedly, "Five million—no, ten million!"
"Ten million?" A trace of disgust flashed across Tian Nongyu's eyes.
This truly was asking for an exorbitant amount.
Though his Tian family held an extremely high status in Shanghai and didn't lack ten million,
this money wasn't blown in by the wind either.
Was he just supposed to casually hand over ten million like that?
He feared they might have the money to take, but no life left to spend it.
With a flash of malice lingering at the corner of his eyes, Tian Nongyu forced a smile that didn't reach his eyes and said, "No problem. I will have someone handle this matter, and you can just tag along when the time comes."
"Now, you can tell me."
"It's the Gu family, the top real estate tycoon family in Qinghai City—the Gu family."
"The Gu family?" Tian Nongyu smiled faintly.
The car finally stopped in the middle of the road. The mother and son got out, bowing and scraping obsequiously.
"You two get into the other car. He will take you to get the money," Tian Nongyu instructed.
"Alright, alright, thank you, Boss Tian! Boss Tian is so generous!"
Watching the mother and son board the very last car in the convoy, Tian Nongyu said to one of his aides, "Find a way to deal with these two. I don't want any news of my affairs leaking out."
"Understood," the man in the front passenger seat sneered and stepped out of the vehicle as well.
......
At the Gu residence, Gu Cangfeng was just about to step outside when he was informed that someone was requesting an audience.
"Who is it?" Gu Cangfeng asked, deeply puzzled.
"It's an elderly man who calls himself Mr. Tian. He seems to have an extraordinary background."
Gu Cangfeng furrowed his brows, yet still gave the order to let him in.
Before long, a hearty laugh echoed through the hall...
"Mr. Gu, Boss Gu, I've heard so much about you!"
Tian Nongyu walked in wearing a white traditional tunic, cupping his fists in greeting.
"And you are..." Gu Cangfeng grew vigilant, as he did not recognize this person.
Even if this was an old business partner of the Gu family, this individual fell outside of his circle of acquaintances.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My surname is Tian, given name Nongyu, head of the Shanghai Tian family."
As soon as these words were spoken, they rang like thunder in Gu Cangfeng's ears.
A prominent family from Shanghai, one of the Eight Elders of the Junlin Group—who in the business world didn't know of them?
"So it is Elder Tian. Please forgive me for not welcoming you from afar. Please, have a seat."
"There's no need for that, Mr. Gu. I have come here today specifically to seek out the chairman of our Junlin Group. I wonder if you might happen to know where he is?"
Gu Cangfeng was extremely puzzled. "How could I possibly know that?"
"Mr. Gu worries too much. Coming here today, I harbor no ill intentions, so I must ask for Mr. Gu's kind assistance."
"But I truly do not know."
"Mr. Gu is quite humorous. If you don't know, then how did the Junlin Group's watch come to be delivered to a young man named Yan Fengjia for temporary safekeeping?"
"Could it be that our chairman is under some special circumstances? If so, I will certainly do everything in my power to help, so that he may return to Junlin sooner and take charge of the overall situation, no?"
As a watch enthusiast, Gu Cangfeng naturally knew what the timepiece Yan Fengjia had pawned to him represented.
Yet, he had never imagined that the watch was actually genuine!
Could it be that Yan Fengjia truly knew the chairman of the Junlin Group?
With his mind spinning rapidly, Gu Cangfeng caught sight of the unkind glints in the eyes of Tian Nongyu's subordinates, and a smile appeared on his face.
"So it was because of that. I am sorry, Elder Tian. Speaking of that watch, it was purely a coincidence; I happened to pick it up."
"My Gu family enjoys a good relationship with the Yan family, and Yan Fengjia once saved my life. Seeing that the watch was quite valuable, I figured it would be fine to give it to him."
"I never imagined that it would turn out to be the watch representing the chairman of the Junlin Group."
Hearing this, Tian Nongyu's expression turned somewhat unsightly.
"Mr. Gu, are you treating me like a three-year-old child to be played with?"
"How could such a special watch possibly be picked up at random?"
"I see it clearly as Mr. Gu harboring suspicions against me, worrying that I harbor ill intentions toward the chairman?"
Gu Cangfeng replied, "There is no such thing. If I knew, I would certainly tell the truth."
Tian Nongyu let out a cold snort and turned around. "Whether you know or not, you will find out very shortly."
"What are you planning to do?"
At that exact moment, a bodyguard stepped forward, moving toward Gu Cangfeng.
Yet just as the man's hand landed on Gu Cangfeng's shoulder, a chilling flash of light bloomed outside the doorway.
A silver needle shot through the air like an explosion, piercing instantly into the bodyguard's fatal pressure point.
The next moment, the bodyguard wailed and collapsed to the ground, rolling about in agonizing pain all over his body.
"Huh?" Tian Nongyu was stunned, having no idea what had just transpired.
Then, a calm voice rang out from outside the entrance.
"Uncle Gu, did something happen at home? Do you need my help?"
Yan Fengjia walked inside.
"It's you!"
Seeing that Yan Fengjia had followed them here, Tian Nongyu's expression instantly darkened.
Yan Fengjia smiled indifferently. "Uncle Gu, let me handle the matters here. You go on inside first."
Gu Cangfeng nodded, signaling for him to be careful, and then walked into the inner rooms.
He had witnessed Yan Fengjia's strength firsthand.
Even the formidable Tiger Lord had been no match for him back then.
"What do you want?" Yan Fengjia looked at Tian Nongyu.
"Nothing much. Tian merely wishes to find the chairman of the Junlin Group so I can invite him back to take charge of the overall situation, nothing more."
"And this is your method of questioning?" Yan Fengjia pointed at the bodyguard screaming in agony on the floor, and with a single kick, sent him flying like a tattered sack of grain.
At this sight, the crowd behind Tian Nongyu stepped forward in unison.
"Hold on," Tian Nongyu slowly raised a hand, stopping his men.
"Kid, regardless of what relationship you have with our chairman, if you know his whereabouts, you'd better tell me immediately. Otherwise, if you delay important matters, neither of your families will be able to bear the responsibility."
"I've already told you—I am the owner of that watch."
Tian Nongyu was about to say more when his cell phone suddenly rang.
"Hello, what is it?"
"What did you say?" Tian Nongyu's expression suddenly shifted drastically.
"A bunch of useless trash! You couldn't even keep your eyes on two women?"
Hanging up the phone in a rush, Tian Nongyu gave Yan Fengjia a deep look. "I will come back to question you further. Let's go."
Watching them depart, Yan Qiuluo also placed a call to Yan Fengjia.
"Master, the mother and daughter are with me now. Long Yiran wants to see you and says she has an urgent matter to discuss."
