A Note on This Chapter
I am making a special single-chapter explanation about my recent pleas for readers to keep following the book.
Lately, this novel has been creeping close to two hundred thousand words, and I still have not received any notice that it will be put on the shelves. Because I have become fixated on getting it published, I swallowed my pride and went to ask the editor whether this book had any chance of being released.
What I learned left me near tears: my steady reader count has not even reached one hundred. It is even lower than that old book of mine that has already been cut off. Without at least one hundred committed readers, getting the book onto the shelves becomes very difficult. Not willing to give up, I asked again, and the editor told me that if the reader count remains below one hundred, my only real hope is to push the book to three hundred thousand words before it can go on sale.
After hearing that, I felt rather discouraged. I have run into this wall again. The last book of mine collapsed not only because my mindset broke and the writing went downhill, but also because failing to get it published was one of the reasons I finally gave up completely.
Still, I do not want to quit. I do not think the two hundred readers needed for a two-hundred-thousand-word release are within reach, but the one hundred-plus readers needed for a two-hundred-and-fifty-thousand-word release still feel possible. I want to make one more push, because if I have to wait until three hundred thousand words before it can be released, I may have already worn my spirit thin by then.
So I must trouble all of you, dear readers. Please move your fingers and help me add some steady follows. I am not asking for the two hundred readers needed for a two-hundred-thousand-word release; I only hope you can help me make a final sprint toward the one hundred-plus readers needed for a two-hundred-and-fifty-thousand-word release. Please, dear readers, I am begging you.
