Chapter 26: You Really Dare to Brag
Although in Qin Guosheng’s eyes, Lin Li was nothing more than a worthless trash, Lin Li himself had never taken this to heart. More than anyone else, he was keenly aware of his own predicament. As long as Qin Guosheng did not see him as a real adversary, Lin Li would have plenty of time to slowly fight him to the end.
Qin Guosheng had originally intended to say a few more words, but after taking a phone call, he hurriedly left.
At this moment, Su Lan looked at Lin Li.
“How confident are you?”
Lin Li considered for a moment. “If everything goes according to my plan, I’m eighty percent sure of success.”
This probability was already quite high. For Lin Li, reaching this stage was no easy feat. Any potential problems that might arise afterward were not within his current scope of concern.
Su Lan nodded upon hearing Lin Li’s words.
“If there’s anything you need me to do, just say the word. I’ll help you as much as I can.”
All these years, the old fox Qin Guosheng had maintained a certain degree of trust in Su Lan. If she could whisper in his ear at the right moment, things would indeed become much easier.
Lin Li checked the time. Since Chen Along had already arrived in River City, it naturally meant Ye Aotian would no longer conceal his identity. As soon as that man revealed his true intentions, Leng Ningxue would realize Lin Li had been right all along. In this way, Lin Li could smoothly bring his next plan to the table.
Of course, Ye Aotian had no idea that his true opponent was not Qin Guosheng, but Lin Li, the mastermind pulling strings from behind the scenes.
...
“Qin Guosheng has gone too far. For so many years, we’ve coexisted peacefully with him. I never expected he would dare to strike against the Leng family,” said Leng Tianyi, utterly shocked when he heard the news. For as long as he could remember, everything had always been under his control. Yet, he hadn’t anticipated that Qin Guosheng would stir up such a storm upon his return.
Did this man not realize that such arrangements could cost lives?
Nevertheless, under these circumstances, Leng Tianyi knew he had to immediately launch a counterattack against the Qin family. Only then would they understand that, even if the Leng family was not as powerful as before, they were not to be trampled by a single Qin Guosheng running amok.
Leng Ningxue merely looked at Leng Tianyi with a calm expression. Over the years, this was far from the first time such events had occurred. Yet, Leng Tianyi was always all thunder and no rain. No matter how furious he seemed now, by tomorrow he might have completely forgotten about it. If Qin Guosheng chose to cooperate with Leng Tianyi at a time like this, he might even laugh and join hands with him.
Leng Ningxue hadn’t intended to tell Leng Tianyi about this matter. However, she hadn’t expected him to find out ahead of time. Upon learning the truth, Leng Tianyi was, of course, enraged and immediately set out to retaliate against the Qin family.
“Father, although the Qin family did strike first this time, Ye Aotian’s actions were indeed too extreme, which is what led to this outcome. Qin Lang is still lying in the hospital’s intensive care unit.”
Leng Ningxue’s tone was neutral. No matter what, Ye Aotian had no need to act so recklessly at the time. What happened now was, after all, his responsibility as well.
Just as Leng Ningxue finished speaking, the butler hurried in from outside.
“Master, there’s a young gentleman outside who wishes to see you.”
Hearing this, Leng Tianyi merely snorted impatiently and waved his hand.
“I won’t see him. I have a pile of matters to attend to—where would I find time for some unknown small fry?”
Yet before his words had faded, Ye Aotian walked in from outside, a faint smile upon his face. He did not seem to think he was intruding at all.
Leng Ningxue stood up and glared at the people around her.
“What are you all doing? How could you just let an outsider walk in here?”
Ye Aotian’s arrogance was plain to see.
“Miss Leng,” he said, “even if they wanted to stop me, they couldn’t. You should know exactly what I’m capable of. The guards here are nothing but wooden stakes to me.”
One had to admit, Ye Aotian was an expert at posturing. His words made even Leng Tianyi pause.
He frowned at Ye Aotian.
“And who are you?”
Ye Aotian, turning toward Leng Tianyi, became much more polite, joining his hands in salute.
“Uncle Leng, my name is Ye Aotian. You might not know this name, but you certainly know another of my identities.”
Seeing Ye Aotian’s smug demeanor, Leng Tianyi’s face twisted with discomfort.
Who on earth is this fellow, acting so mysteriously? Who cares about all these secrets?
Ye Aotian showed not a trace of embarrassment. Raising both hands high, he announced with a laugh, “The Dragon King of the Frontier, the Nation’s Guardian God of War.”
At these eight words, even Leng Tianyi’s expression changed slightly. He’d heard that name before and knew the man had a formidable reputation on the border. He just hadn’t expected to meet him in person.
After a moment’s thought, Leng Tianyi snorted,
“Stop talking nonsense. I’ve heard of that God of War at the frontier long ago. Seven or eight years back, he was already famous abroad. Judging by your age, how could you possibly be him? Are you going to tell me he swept the world as a teenager?”
Leng Tianyi’s words carried a note of disdain. He’d expected Ye Aotian to back down, but instead, Ye Aotian confidently lifted his head.
“My achievements are indeed hard for many to comprehend, Uncle Leng, but what you just said is absolutely correct. I began my training at twelve, and by fourteen, I could complete missions alone. Everything I said is true.”
Leng Tianyi still found it hard to believe, but Leng Ningxue lightly patted his shoulder.
“Father, since we’re about to deal with the Qin family, having someone like him to help us isn’t a bad thing.”
Indeed, with Ye Aotian delivering himself to their door, it would be a waste not to use such a fool.
Ye Aotian, hearing Leng Ningxue’s words, was instantly moved.
Xue’er, you finally understand my good intentions.
