Chapter Sixty: The Dragon Maiden Matchmaker
This potion, in the game, is quite a marginal item. Its cooldown is lengthy, and if you’re in a dungeon destined to kill you, reviving won’t help you clear it; if you can clear it, you likely won’t die in the first place. For the players, it’s trivial, but for Xie Jing, it’s truly a divine elixir!
He never imagined he could draw such a thing! Xie Jing suddenly felt a surge of anticipation toward the gift boxes. Glancing at the remaining two thousand or so, he wondered what other treasures might emerge.
Unfortunately, as he opened the rest in a rush, all that was left was a scattered heap of healing potions and teleportation items.
With only a few hundred boxes remaining, Xie Jing rubbed his hands together, waiting for a miracle.
Teleportation potions... Remy’s Blessing... Grade Adjustment Boxes... More useless stuff.
Finally, only five boxes remained.
“System, stop! I want to open them one by one!”
“Heavenly spirits, earthly spirits, Amitabha, God bless me, let the decree be swift!”
Carefully, he opened the first box.
A flash of light, and a yellow potion appeared on the screen.
[Congratulations, you received Teleportation Potion x10]
He opened another.
[Congratulations, you received Fate Coin x3]
Useless junk! Xie Jing never trusted his luck; he knew he wasn’t one of the blessed.
Only three left. He exhaled deeply, set aside all thoughts, and pressed the open button.
Ding~~
A pleasant chime brightened his eyes.
[Congratulations, you received a set of Rare Costume Gift Boxes]
Sky set? For items valued more for appearance than utility, Xie Jing had little interest.
Two more! His luck was turning!
Riding the momentum, Xie Jing tapped open another.
Ding~~
Another clear chime. Xie Jing was overjoyed—he hadn’t expected such luck! Two in a row!
[Congratulations, you received Berserker: Scarlet Dragon Maiden Pet Gift Box x1]
Pet!
Xie Jing didn’t know that an NPC like himself could own pets, let alone acquire such a rare Dragon Maiden!
Wait—perhaps it’s not rare yet.
Compared to other pets, the Dragon Maiden boasted a flawless appearance and impressive figure, along with strong attributes. Xie Jing was delighted.
The last one! No time to waste!
He glanced at the final gift box, prayed to all the gods in heaven, and clicked open with closed eyes.
Ding~~
Haha! Another reward!
He quickly opened his eyes, elated.
[Congratulations, you received +15 Enhancement Scroll x1]
When Xie Jing saw this item, he thought he must be mistaken.
The previous items were all scattered but at least familiar from the game. But this +15 Enhancement Scroll... It was unheard of.
In an era where +12 was considered elite, +13 was reserved for the chosen, any player seeing a +15 scroll would stop at nothing to obtain it!
Enhancements cost a fortune, with +12 success rates around five percent, +13 halved again, +14 halved yet again, and +15... It would take a lifetime’s luck to achieve.
It was an unimaginably valuable treasure!
Sadly, it was useless to Xie Jing now. His abilities relied on his own light, not the equipment system.
Still, at least he could use the pet egg!
[Would you like to hatch Berserker: Scarlet Dragon Maiden Pet Gift Box?]
“Yes!”
The box opened, and in the clearing appeared a blonde woman, taller than Xie Jing by a head.
She was clad in red, with rabbit ears tied by two scarves atop her head, red armor on her right hand and foot, a massive fist, most of her body dressed only in a simple bikini, her pale red skin sparkling translucently.
Her bust was magnificent, her waist slender and hips curvaceous, and her cold expression stirred the heart.
“Master! Please give me a name!”
Her words were crisp, her voice icy.
Xie Jing gazed at her, curiously touched her face, then reached out to squeeze her bust. The Dragon Maiden did not react.
“I’ll call you Matchmaker!”
As soon as he spoke, the name “Matchmaker” appeared above her head.
“Master, you may command Matchmaker to do anything!”
“Even love-making?” Xie Jing asked with curiosity.
“If Master does not mind Matchmaker’s cold body, it is possible!”
Xie Jing looked at the Dragon Maiden in surprise; her words seemed tinged with emotion.
Did this mean she wasn’t a mere machine?
“Matchmaker, are you a robot?” Xie Jing asked directly.
She tilted her head, her red eyes fixed on him.
“Matchmaker is a modified organism, with a mechanical core and a self-emotion system. Once I recognize a master, I will never betray.”
“Well then, follow me!” Xie Jing had no ill intentions on the street.
“Yes, Master!” Matchmaker quietly floated behind him, silently watching.
After gathering everything, Xie Jing looked around.
With the boss of the speedboat battle gone, the event could no longer continue, so some players turned their investments toward Xie Jing.
Gold income resumed, with over eighty billion still needed to reach the goal of one hundred billion. At the current pace, it would take seven or eight days to complete this task.
Both tasks were progressing well, but Xie Jing felt somewhat lost.
What was the system’s purpose in bringing him into this world?
In the world of Diga, the system clearly wanted him to possess the power of light, and subsequent luck tasks were meant for him to secure peace for Earth.
But here in Arad, the three tasks seemed frivolous, almost like a joke.
Ponder as he might, Xie Jing couldn’t discern the system’s intent.
Yet the second task—rebuilding Arad...
If he restored Arad, wouldn’t that contradict the game’s version? Would the publisher abandon the game, and if so, would this world perish or continue independently?
Xie Jing felt the answer lay within the second task.
But unfortunately... The first and second tasks were linked; to activate the second, he had to first complete the prerequisite of acquiring one hundred billion.
For now, he set aside these thoughts. Checking the time, it was nearly night as Golantis had mentioned.
He planned to find the Ghost Swordsman mentor GSD to learn about energy manipulation.
This world was so refined, every skill had its corresponding control method—not simply a matter of clicking an icon in the skill bar.
Dong, dong, dong—
Three chimes sounded from somewhere. Suddenly, a message popped up on Xie Jing’s screen.
[Nightfall has arrived. Would you like to activate your avatar and enter Night Mode?]
Of course!
Xie Jing felt something detach from his body, and the scene before him changed in an instant.
