Chapter Seven: Battling Little Monsters
Dagu raised the Divine Light Staff high above his head, and the power of light radiated across the entire arena—two meters, ten meters, fifty meters... A magnificent figure appeared on the ground: a giant towering fifty-three meters high, striking a battle pose against the two monsters. Shades of purple, silver-white, and red intertwined across his body; on his chest, silvery armor encircled a timer, and his athletic form constantly hinted at both agility and enormity.
It was Tiga.
In the Victory Team’s operations command room, everyone stared in astonishment at the giant on the screen.
“So this is the Giant of Light Yu Ling spoke about? Truly extraordinary.” Excavator murmured in awe.
Huizhong pressed a hand to her forehead and said, “Did Fujii Yuta transform into this giant? Where is Dagu? Is he alright?”
Ye Run, who had been working at the computer, replied, “Dagu’s communication still can’t be reached, and look—Fujii Yuta is standing at the giant’s feet.”
The camera zoomed in, and Xie Jing was clearly visible beside the giant, utterly unafraid.
“So...who is this giant...?” Deputy Captain Zongfang spoke slowly, causing a hush to fall across the command room.
On the screen, the situation changed again.
Xie Jing clenched his fists tightly, exerting all his strength, and his whole body instantly became a conglomeration of light. His recently grown hair fell away, revealing a bald head, and then his head began to transform, light gathering before him. Ten meters, fifty meters... Beside Tiga, another giant appeared, even taller than the first.
His head was silver, topped with a crystal reminiscent of Dyna, and the sides bulged slightly. Red and blue spiraled across his body, with golden light flickering along the edges of the lines. The timer on his chest was entirely different from Tiga’s, glowing not with blue energy, but with golden radiance. With every movement, a shimmer of light danced beside him.
...
Feeling a surge of strength in his body, towering at over seventy meters, everything around seemed like mere toys. The appearance of these two giants made Golza and Melba roar furiously. Xie Jing and Dagu, in perfect harmony, separated to face their foes.
Xie Jing confronted Golza, the ancient monster. The techniques from “Martial Arts” instantly gave him battle prowess. He stood with hands on his hips, gazing at Golza’s ugly head.
At that moment, Golza seemed unable to bear Xie Jing’s wide eyes—it moved!
Golza swung its massive claws, but Xie Jing casually blocked them, then rammed his head hard into Golza’s chest. The energy of light instantly gathered at the horn on his head—a blast thundered, flames erupted, and Golza staggered back, a chunk of flesh torn from its chest, exposing organs within a gaping hole the size of a bowl.
Xie Jing pressed his advantage, but Golza spun suddenly, swiping its thick tail. Xie Jing reacted in an instant, bending and sidestepping out of harm’s way.
Looking up, he saw sparks fly from Golza’s armored neck. It opened its mouth, and a foul-smelling purple sphere of light shot toward Xie Jing. His body had just begun to rise, too late to dodge. Xie Jing swiped his hands, the air rippled, faint light appeared, and a circular shield materialized, intercepting the sphere.
Boom!
Flames burst, Xie Jing quickly withdrew the skill. Seeing Golza preparing another sphere, he rushed forward, grabbed Golza’s jaws with one hand, and with the other, unleashed light that formed a blade and stabbed it into Golza’s neck.
Golza’s roars grew weaker. Xie Jing leaped back, extended his right hand, and a surge of force erupted from his chest, coursing through his palm—a golden ray pierced Golza’s body, causing a massive explosion.
Easily resolved! The whole battle lasted barely a minute!
Golza’s body was blasted apart, thoroughly destroyed. This meant one less episode in Tiga’s storyline.
Why not strike an Ultraman pose? Well... Xie Jing felt it was a bit too embarrassing.
Though Xie Jing dispatched Golza with incredible speed, it was all based on his own formidable martial arts and the attribute bonuses granted by the proof of true manhood.
Basic mastery meant a fivefold boost, making Xie Jing’s strength and speed five times greater!
Reveling in his newfound power and striking appearance, Xie Jing was deeply satisfied with his gains.
On Dagu’s side...
It must be said, it was nothing like watching the battles on television. Experiencing it firsthand, he realized the monsters’ movements were not clumsy at all—they attacked with their most effective techniques.
While Xie Jing battled fiercely, Dagu and Melba had already taken to the skies. Wind howled, clouds swirled, and two massive figures collided, locked in combat.
Melba was incredibly fast, dodging Tiga’s repeated attacks. Finally, a flash of light enveloped Tiga in purple, transforming him into his aerial form, matching Melba’s speed.
On TV, Tiga’s defeat of Melba was no different from slaughtering a chicken—a mysterious beam, not even a special attack, shattered Melba instantly.
In reality, it wasn’t much harder. Tiga sprang into the air, delivering a flying kick that sent Melba crashing to the ground. He then gathered light and fired a beam, striking Melba squarely.
A tremendous explosion scattered Melba’s fragments everywhere, and Tiga’s chest timer began to beep.
Their first battle had felt remarkably easy.
Xie Jing waved his hands, his figure swiftly shrinking, finally resuming his original form.
Meanwhile, Dagu raised his hands and soared into the distance.
Xie Jing shielded his eyes with his hand, muttering to himself, “I’m really curious—after you fly off, how does your human form emerge nearby? Is there some kind of instant teleportation?”
He rubbed his newly smooth scalp and watched as several helicopters flew overhead; a yellow and black plane appeared above him.
...
Dagu emerged from somewhere, and together with Xie Jing, they piloted the Flying Swallow back to base.
On the plane, Xie Jing summoned the system. He saw that the mission section was marked “Completed,” and beneath it, a lucky mission option was glowing.
“Hm, another mission?” Xie Jing was intrigued.
With knowledge of the plot and the system’s help, obtaining Ultraman’s power was indeed simple.
But the story had only just begun. Wasn’t the point of gaining these abilities to show off a little? What would life mean otherwise?
He clicked on the lucky mission.
A string of words replaced the previous mission.
Lucky Mission: Become an Ultraman. Protecting Earth is your duty! But why do monsters come to Earth? What draws them here? Or is something directing them? Go forth, young man! Uncover the truth behind it all!
Lucky Mission Bonus: +1 lottery draw, luck rate doubled!
Xie Jing pored over every word of the mission, feeling his head swell.
He’d watched the show and knew the story, thinking any new mission would be easy to complete. But what kind of ridiculous task was this?
Are there hidden masterminds behind the monsters? Even Tsuburaya himself probably doesn’t know!
Once this mission appeared, Xie Jing realized there really might be some villain orchestrating the monsters’ arrival on Earth—and if not, the system would probably create one.
“Honestly, can’t I just enjoy myself?”
Xie Jing rubbed his shiny bald head, troubled with the woes of a protagonist.
