Chapter 133
"So that is how it is? It seems you are quite the important figure, Mingchuan." At the Wales base, after listening to Lei Mingchuan recount the history of the Eastern Alliance from a century ago, Princess Miller had gained a general understanding of his background.
"I wouldn't call myself an important figure. After all, I am only eighteen, and at most, I simply act as a translator for my father," Mingchuan replied modestly to the Princess's inquiry. "In the end, I am insignificant. Even as a translation assistant, I could easily be replaced. It is only in this world that my value truly manifests. So, what does it matter if I never return? I quite like this world, anyway!"
"Not returning? Then what about her? Do you not wish to return to that world with her?" Hearing this, Miller became somewhat curious. According to Lei Mingchuan, that girl had arrived in this world alongside him; why, then, would he abandon her?
"Her? She isn't even from that world. Did she really think she could fool me? She knows far too much about this world, as if she had been here before. But Cole has already investigated; her name does not appear in any historical records. Therefore, she must be from this world." Lei Mingchuan did not care in the slightest that Princess Miller knew his suspicions. "While this does not affect my feelings for her, it still makes me wary of her."
"Forgive me, I cannot understand. How can it not affect your feelings, yet still make you wary?"
"It is like having feelings for a spy. You may care for them, but because their origins are unknown, you remain on your guard." Lei Mingchuan provided a vivid analogy. Indeed, as he said, one might like a person before discovering they are a spy, but once that truth is known, wariness is inevitable.
"I do not know if I should believe you. Although we in the United Kingdom are the only ones possessing this technology, I must remain vigilant against the possibility that other nations might have it as well." Though he did not admit it directly, Lei Mingchuan had indirectly confirmed his distrust of her.
"About that..." Hearing of his distrust, Princess Miller hesitated. "If I told you that she is actually one of my agents, would you be willing to believe it?"
Upon hearing this, Trexi and Lei Mingchuan were both stunned. "One of your agents?"
"You could call her my double! Can you trust my word?" Princess Miller seemed to genuinely hope they would believe her, though Trexi had already received his own answers from Cole and was naturally skeptical.
"If the principal herself says so, I shall begrudgingly believe you for now. But I would like to know why."
"Trexi, it is because I wanted to find him." As she spoke, Princess Miller pointed a finger at Trexi. "I wanted to understand him. I wanted to know what the Crown Prince of the United Kingdom is truly like."
"Well, you can ask him to his face now. What could I possibly be like? I am just as you see me." Trexi answered the Princess with a helpless shrug; even he found such an answer hard to believe.
"Very well! Given that the entire United Kingdom is scouring the world for him, I will take your word for it." From Lei Mingchuan's perspective, however, he had chosen to believe her. Just then, they seemed to have arrived at a specific room. "Pardon me, I have arrived. Thank you both for escorting me."
It appeared to be Lei Mingchuan's room. "It is only right; we are brothers. Mingchuan, get some good rest. Your girlfriend is still waiting for you on the front lines." Trexi opened the door for him and patted him on the shoulder.
"I understand, of course. Goodnight, see you tomorrow." Back inside the room, Lei Mingchuan waved, signaling that they should head back.
"Take care of yourself, then. We are leaving." After seeing Trexi and Princess Miller off, Lei Mingchuan, who had been sitting in a wheelchair, suddenly stood up, his legs showing no signs of injury at all.
"Honestly, the original body actually makes me do these things. Oh well, it is work I have to do for myself, so I shall simply comply." He did not care about his status, knowing full well that they were ultimately the same person. And now, even though they shared the same physical form, the hypothesis that every clone possesses its own autonomous consciousness and refuses to be controlled by the original had been soundly overturned.
"It seems the original is off to attend that United Nations summit. It looks like I shall be the one commanding the military affairs here in the United Kingdom." Although he had gained some clues from Princess Miller, he still could not confirm whether the two of them were truly the same person. After all, a situation like his own was not impossible to replicate. Even if the Royal Academy's technology was inferior to his own, there could always be exceptions.
"Then it is time to act separately. I hope everything goes smoothly for the original."
