Chapter 82: Farewell, Returning to My Former Identity as Mingchuan
“Damn it, why didn’t you tell me earlier that they were getting discharged today? Now I have to rush everything!” Sitting in the director’s chair in the office of Saint Francis Hospital, Treycey—also known as Mingchuan—appeared quite irritated. Indeed, though last night hadn’t lasted long into the hours, as a diligent crown prince, Treycey could only rest easy after ensuring every detail was settled before stepping into Mingchuan’s life.
“If I hadn’t held you back, do you think you would have properly handled your relationship with Annie last night? Relax, nothing will be delayed.” Roger, clearly a slow-paced sort of person and somewhat of a rascal, replied.
“Fine, your excuse is good enough. I’ll just go ahead and deal with the next tasks properly.” Mingchuan accepted the discharge permits for Wenxin and the others from Roger and dutifully signed his name.
“Heh, Your Highness, do you not trust our Welsh Party? Even if the prince isn’t present, we can accomplish everything as before, following parliamentary procedures. Besides, those Scorpion fellows have completely acknowledged us. So, with the upcoming Cestane campaign, we can fully seize the Terminator technology of the Cestane Kingdom…”
“No, let’s hand that over to our puppet.” Mingchuan gently tapped the desk and stood, but instead of leaving, he walked to the private surveillance room at the back of the director’s office.
“Puppet? You think…” Roger didn’t fully grasp Treycey’s intentions, but he had some inkling.
“The Eastern Alliance? Or the Europa Headquarters?”
“Who knows? I think it’s the Northern Union. They’re quite fond of giant mechs, aren’t they? Let’s make them trade for what they want.” Mingchuan stared silently at the screen, which clearly showed scenes far removed from the hospital—outside the window, snow and ice dominated, and even Roger standing behind him understood: these were surveillance feeds from the rooms of all important figures at the Northern Union headquarters and its branches.
“So that’s what you were doing in here earlier. What’s next?”
“It seems we have a traitor among us. But that’s all right—this person will be our contact. Though I can’t infiltrate the Northern Union so quickly, if the traitor tries anything against me, the Northern Union’s end will be close at hand.” Mingchuan seemed assured, though he knew that to lure the Northern Union’s people, he’d have to pay a price—such as his identity as a prince.
“A final farewell. Aren’t you going to say something?”
A sense of melancholy crept into Mingchuan’s heart; after all, they were his brothers, though he dared not show much grief. Deliberately letting Roger walk ahead, the two gradually made their way toward Wenxin’s ward.
“It’s not like you’re gone forever. You’ll return sooner or later, won’t you? You never act unless you’re sure of victory. Has our ‘angel’ been settled as well?”
“Not yet, but almost. When the time comes, I’ll leave it to you three—and only you three, because no one else is worthy.” Before entering the room, Mingchuan patted Roger’s shoulder, “Take good care of Annie for me!”
“Understood, go on in…”
