“Old friend, do not draw conclusions before the very last moment. Wasn’t that what you said?”

Zhou Tian signaled to the King of Gods not to be hasty, but to watch a little longer.

The King of Gods had deep, unfathomable eyes. His gaze shifted slightly, but he said nothing.

Zhou Changsheng’s face was pale—not because he had been frightened by the scene before him, but because the small pot in his hand had drawn away too much of his energy.

As their realms grew higher, the disparity between them became greater. Moreover, many supreme treasures possessed unimaginable might, and every use demanded an immense amount of energy.

At lower realms, one might still forcefully wield a weapon a realm above one’s own. But now, each realm was like an impassable gulf. Had this Celestial Venerable artifact not been damaged, the instant it was activated would have drained Zhou Changsheng dry.

Even so, after using it several times, he was beginning to struggle. He took out several golden pills that exuded a strange fragrance and stuffed them into his mouth, temporarily easing the strain.

“Brother Changsheng, this place is strange and perilous. We know very little about it, so we must proceed with caution!”

Xuan Zhenzi spoke with a grave expression. They knew very little about the Hall of All Gods. They only knew that such an ancient hall existed, that it had vanished after the ancient war, and that many mighty beings had searched for it for a very long time without success.

“Mm.”

Zhou Changsheng nodded. His eyes shone brilliantly, and within his pupils, another pupil appeared. Golden divine radiance shot forth as he employed an extraordinarily powerful ocular technique to investigate the spectral figures of the gods.

The light of his technique swept across them, and his expression grew increasingly solemn. He discovered that the phantoms were gradually becoming solid. Strange symbols were assembling within them, containing a divine radiance, as though the gods were being reborn.

Zhou Changsheng held the small pot in one hand and clenched the other into a fist. Veins bulged across his arm as the shadow of a dragon coiled around it. Its head was formed by his fist, its eyes ferocious and its scales gleaming, so lifelike that it seemed real. Accompanied by a resounding dragon’s roar, the great dragon burst forth.

At first, it was only several feet long. In the blink of an eye, it expanded to a hundred yards, baring its fangs and claws as it charged straight toward the Lord of the Sacred Gods.

With a clatter, bronze chains burst from somewhere within the great hall. They were enormously thick and engraved with profound runes. They pierced straight through the great dragon and shattered it. Zhou Changsheng’s long-prepared strike was not even worthy of being suppressed.

The expressions of Zhou Changsheng and the others darkened.

Only now did they realize that the Hall of All Gods was itself a Celestial Venerable artifact. However, because the divine realm had been shattered, the hall had lost most of its power. It retained only a fraction of the might of such an artifact and could barely be considered a half-step Celestial Venerable artifact.

Because the hall was special and was not controlled by any single person, they had only now noticed its true nature.

By this time, the Lord of the Sacred Gods had also lowered his chanting to a whisper. It seemed he was about to finish. The phantoms seated upon the ancient divine thrones had all become solid, their skin crystalline as jade and their expressions cold and stern, as though they had been resurrected.

“Who would have thought that we would have another chance to fight.”

The god seated upon the ancient throne that had just forced Zhou Tian to retreat was the only one among the front-row thrones to possess a divine inheritance. He was a completely golden god clad in golden armor, though the armor covered only part of his body, leaving large expanses of skin exposed. He did not have exaggerated muscles; instead, he appeared somewhat lean and frail.

A golden longbow rested across his legs. Its tail feathers were shaped like flowers, and its body was engraved with strange patterns.

At that moment, light shone from his pupils as he looked toward the Lord of the Sacred Gods. A certain emotion lingered in his eyes, as though he still wished to say something.

“As expected of the God Hunter. Such a powerful imprint remains within his divine seat.”

The Lord of the Sacred Gods and the others also revealed looks of astonishment, evidently not expecting this. Yet throughout the entire hall, only the God Hunter possessed any trace of consciousness. Although the other gods radiated fierce and mighty auras, their eyes were utterly hollow.

The God Hunter sighed softly and said no more. At present, he was merely an imprint remaining within the divine seat, not the God Hunter himself. The God Hunter had perished long ago in the ancient era.

“Are they the ones?”

The God Hunter turned toward Zhou Changsheng and the others, his tone difficult to fathom.

“An utterly pointless war.”

He seemed to have recognized their origins as well. He calmly lifted the golden longbow from his legs, nocked an arrow, and drew the string. A pale golden arrow condensed upon the bowstring. There was no special technique, nor any earth-shattering phenomenon.

It was as plain and ordinary as a mortal hunter shooting a beast in the mountains.

Hum!

The bowstring thrummed, sending ripples spreading through the air. The pale golden arrow shot forth, neither fast nor slow.

Yet Zhou Changsheng and the others changed color dramatically. Their hearts screamed warnings, and they felt as though they had been targeted by an ancient vicious beast. Killing intent approached from every direction, though the arrow itself contained none.

“Tower, come!”

Xuan Zhenzi stepped forward from Zhou Changsheng’s side. A mass of purple clouds appeared above his head, and a dark-gold exquisite little tower emerged. It had six corners and was mottled and broken, with only three tiers remaining, base included. A faint glazed golden radiance enveloped Zhou Changsheng and the others.

The pale golden arrow flew slowly toward them, locking firmly onto their positions.

When the arrow touched the glazed golden radiance descending from the little tower, no energy erupted. Everything remained calm and unremarkable. The arrow merely continued drilling forward, slowly but with unwavering determination.

After shooting the arrow, the God Hunter’s body, which had seemed almost tangible, grew diffuse. He turned to the Lord of the Sacred Gods and said,

“I hope you will find a suitable successor for my divine seat.”

After speaking, his body dispersed and condensed into a gleaming golden bow-shaped rune, which fell into the hands of the Sacred God.

“He did not wish to fight any longer. He gathered all his power, along with his own imprint, and barely managed to unleash a strike at his peak.”

The God of Death spoke.

The three gods fell silent for a moment, as though they had remembered something.

Meanwhile, Zhou Changsheng and the others looked extremely grim. Blood even spilled from the corner of Xuan Zhenzi’s mouth. He held the little tower in his hand, and upon closer inspection, a hole as fine as a needle could be seen in it.

That arrow had actually damaged a Celestial Venerable artifact.

Only when they saw the God Hunter dissolve did they finally relax. If another arrow had come, they truly would not have been able to withstand it.

“Ghostie, that fellow is quite formidable.”

Zhou Tian stood beside the King of Gods, marveling at what he had witnessed.

“Indeed. The God Hunter was already incomparably powerful in ancient times. No one beneath the Celestial Venerable realm could evade that arrow.”

The King of Gods sighed as well, a trace of remembrance in his expression.

“No one beneath the Celestial Venerable realm could evade it? Tsk, tsk. If he was such a formidable figure, how did he end up dying? I saw that plenty of people ranked below him managed to escape.”

Zhou Tian clicked his tongue in wonder. He could not understand how someone so powerful had failed to escape.

“The ways of the world are unpredictable…”

The King of Gods remained silent for a long while before sighing. He said nothing more.

Zhou Tian had merely mentioned it in passing. He was not curious enough to pursue the story of a god who had been dead for countless years.
