Chapter Seventy-Seven: The Shameless True Face (2)
“Forget it. Our money doesn’t grow on trees, and the opponent is just too strong. We can’t play this game anymore.”
“That’s right, I’m out too. I can’t beat that streamer on the other side, and honestly, I quite like his singing. I’m going to his stream to listen to music.”
“Hey, hey! Gentlemen, please, don’t go!”
Chen Yi immediately panicked.
If they left, what was the point of continuing this PK? She would definitely lose everything, right down to her underwear.
What about her dream of becoming a star? What about her contract?
If that happened, everything would be over for her.
No matter what, she had to secure the victory in this PK tonight.
“Gentlemen, please, I’m begging you. If you help me win this battle, I promise—one month! No, three months! Is that enough for you?”
“Forget it. For that kind of money, I could hire a hundred models and never have the same one twice in a month.”
“Exactly. And to spend three months on just one person? Even the smallest mine would be emptied out by then. What’s the point?”
“Your ocean isn’t big enough for that many fish.”
As they spoke, the avatars of several big spenders dimmed, signaling that they had logged off.
This left Chen Yi feeling even more desolate and desperate.
She glared at Yang Xiaofan on the other side of the screen, her teeth grinding in hatred. If looks could kill, he’d have been sliced to pieces a thousand times by now.
“No, Chen Yi, stay calm. You mustn’t lose your composure. There’s still a little time left before the PK ends; there’s still a chance.”
With that thought, Chen Yi excused herself to the bathroom and left the streaming room, immediately dialing Yang Xiaofan’s number.
She’d kept his number from their days at school, just in case.
On Yang Xiaofan’s end, Qin Nuanyin was holding his phone, sending gifts to his stream, when suddenly she saw an unfamiliar number pop up. She paused, then whispered, “It’s your phone.”
Yang Xiaofan frowned slightly. Who would be calling him at this hour?
He hadn’t intended to answer, but when he saw it was a number from Northern Jiangsu, he thought it might be something from the company. He told his fans in the stream, stepped aside, and answered.
“Hello? Who is this?”
Immediately, Chen Yi’s sultry voice came through the receiver.
“Hello, Fan, it’s me.”
Goosebumps broke out all over Yang Xiaofan, and he nearly gagged.
So it was her—Chen Yi, that wretched woman.
If she was calling, it could only mean trouble.
“What do you want?”
“I need to talk to you. Could you pause your stream and have a quick chat with me?”
Yang Xiaofan’s eyes narrowed. He could already guess that whatever Chen Yi wanted to say, it wouldn’t be anything good.
Since that was the case, he might as well share it with everyone.
He smiled and hit the speakerphone button, moving behind the streaming camera and clearing his throat.
“It’s fine, I’m not in front of the camera now. Whatever you want to say, just say it.”
“Oh, Fan, you’re so sweet.”
The viewers in the stream were instantly confused.
“???”
“That coquettish voice sounds so familiar. Where have I heard it before?”
“Idiot, that’s Yi Yi’s voice.”
“What the hell, she actually has his number? And she’s calling him right in the middle of the PK? What is she up to?”
“Who knows? Let’s listen.”
Everyone stopped what they were doing and focused on the call.
“Let’s skip the pleasantries. Just tell me what you want.”
“Here’s the thing. I’m trying to switch careers and become a star. I’ve already talked to a film company. If I win tonight’s PK, I’ll get a contract and become a celebrity.”
“Oh? And what does that have to do with me?”
“I want you to let me win.”
“Let you win? Chen Yi, how can you even say that? Don’t forget, at the freshman welcome party, you poisoned me. To stop me from performing, you ruined my voice and broke my guitar so I couldn’t play. Where was your mercy then?”
“???”
The viewers were dumbfounded. What was this? Yi Yi poisoned Yang Xiaofan?
“Oh, Fan, that was all a misunderstanding. I was young and foolish. I apologize now, okay? Besides, if I hadn’t done that and kept you from singing, you wouldn’t have gotten famous with your sand art.”
The audience was speechless yet again.
Does she have no shame?
To twist things like that? Without her sabotage, he would’ve become famous singing as well! This was shamelessness to the extreme.
Both streams erupted in curses.
“Despicable!”
“Shameless!”
“I can’t believe I was ever her fan. I gave her so much money—should’ve just bought a dog instead.”
Yang Xiaofan couldn’t see the comments, of course, but from the way Qin Nuanyin was struggling not to burst out laughing, he could guess what was happening in the stream.
“Heh, even if you say that, there’s no way I’ll let you win the PK. Otherwise, I’d just be a pushover for anyone who wants to use me. I owe you nothing.”
“Oh, I’d never let you lose out. If you help me this time, I’ll do anything you want. Whatever you say, I’ll do it.”
“If I remember right, you came to me before the welcome party, and I refused. What makes you think I’d agree now?”
“That’s because you don’t know the benefits yet. If you did, you’d never want to leave me. Besides, wouldn’t it be more satisfying for revenge to vent all your anger than to win a PK?”
“I’ll pass.”
“Why?”
“I don’t want to catch anything.”
With that, Yang Xiaofan hung up, satisfied that the call had run its course.
By now, the stream was in total chaos.
That brief phone conversation was like gasoline on the gossip fire, igniting everyone’s curiosity.
“Damn! That woman is disgusting! I supported her for a month and spent seven or eight thousand, and this is what she’s like?”
“You think that’s bad? I was her fan for a year and spent nearly a hundred thousand! Damn it...”
