Chapter 34: Grinding Mobs
First, after naming the new egg "Cold Flood Dragon Egg," Fang Zheng continued his verification under the bewildered gaze of Jiang Tingting.
He opened his inventory, took out a mob spawner, placed it on the ground, and clicked on the spawner with the Cold Flood Dragon spawn egg.
Immediately, inside the pixelated iron cage of the spawner, a tiny, ink-jade dragon-like figure appeared. Its body was held perfectly straight, resembling a small, long lizard, spinning continuously within the cage while surrounded by pixelated flames.
Seeing those burning pixelated flames, Fang Zheng realized immediately, "It worked!"
"Yay! Yay! Yay!"
Happy cheers rang out. Jiang Tingting, waiting nearby, watched Fang Zheng jumping in place, clueless as to what he was celebrating. She merely stared curiously at the peculiar cage and the minuscule dragon trapped within.
Watching the tiny creature spinning in place, surrounded by odd, small red pixelated squares, she felt puzzled. "Could it be that this already-dead Cold Flood Dragon egg has had its embryo resurrected by Senior Fang?"
"But why is this cub spinning in circles?"
She instinctively extended her divine sense to investigate, only to become more confused. "Is... is this really a resurrection?"
Most creatures appear cute and delicate during their infancy. Yet, under the probe of her divine sense, this supposed dragon cub lacked any trace of youthful charm; it was a perfect, miniature version of a ferocious, fully-grown dragon. Moreover, although its body spun constantly within the cage, it remained stiff and rigid, motionless in its entirety. No blood circulated, no heart beat; by all appearances, it was a corpse.
However, Jiang Tingting strangely sensed that this dragon cub possessed a soul—weak, yet undeniably present. But that soul was also in a bizarre, stagnant state, somewhat like one sealed by divine sources, yet something felt off.
She asked tentatively, "Senior Fang, have you resurrected this Cold Flood Dragon? But why, despite its body and soul being intact, does it seem as though it has been sealed? Did you seal it yourself?"
"And what exactly is this 'mob spawner' you speak of?"
Hearing her confusion, Fang Zheng chuckled and replied, "The egg wasn't resurrected. I turned it into a spawn egg so I could spawn mobs. And this cage is what I use to place the spawn egg and keep it spawning."
Jiang Tingting was bewildered. "Spawn egg? Spawning? What does that mean?"
"You'll see in a moment," Fang Zheng answered, looking around with a puzzled expression. "Eh? Shouldn't it have spawned by now? Where is it?"
"Did it spawn inside a cave underground?" He checked the ground, still confused. "But I used spectator mode earlier and didn't see any caves nearby. Where did it spawn?"
"Is it not spawning yet? Does it need special conditions, like light levels or something?"
The moment Fang Zheng was still pondering, Jiang Tingting’s thoughts stirred, and she looked up at the sky.
*Rumble...*
From the unimaginably distant sky, a devastating shockwave erupted downward. Jiang Tingting’s pupils constricted. In an instant, she unleashed her full defenses, shrouding the area in divine power.
In a fleeting moment, the entire sky turned a blinding, searing white, as if a great sun had suddenly descended upon the world. It was as if millions, trillions, or even quadrillions of ultra-high-yield hydrogen bombs had detonated in the distant heavens. The explosive, high-temperature, high-pressure shockwave compressed and heated the air in the upper atmosphere, turning it from plasma into a state resembling a superfluid.
Limited by the visual frame rate of his blocky body, Fang Zheng’s reflexes could not perceive what had happened in that instant, but Jiang Tingting, at the second stage of the Sendai realm, saw it clearly.
This was a power strong enough to threaten her life!
It was an attack rivaling the Ninth Transformation of the Dragon Transformation realm, but on a scale far greater—as if trillions of cultivators at the peak of the Ninth Transformation were launching their strongest attacks simultaneously from the far reaches of the sky.
The searing white plane, radiating immense, indescribable energy, descended at thousands of times the speed of sound—roughly 1% of the speed of light. To Jiang Tingting’s physical eyes, it appeared as a flat plane; only by using her divine sense could she detect a faint curvature, suggesting it was not a plane at all, but likely a sphere. This meant the range of this terrifying shockwave far exceeded anything one could imagine.
As the searing white plane descended, starting from the cloud-piercing mountain peaks, the ancient ice and snow, the vegetation, the soil, the stone, and the forests of towering ancient trees that grew in the frozen wilderness—everything was swallowed and dissolved in an instant. Even the Yin-Dark Wood trees, which grew at the nodes of cold earthly veins and accumulated vast amounts of yin-evil energy, were incinerated into glowing white coals and burned to ash in the blink of an eye.
Yet, the shockwave—which felt as if an entire star were crashing down—did not persist.
Jiang Tingting saw that, in that split second, before the blinding, heat-laden light could even begin to evaporate the ground, the incomplete Imperial Array covering the entire Jiang family territory, designed to defend against internal crises, was instantly activated.
Dense chains of golden runes descended from the horizon, filling the sky at an even greater speed. The massive shockwave, which had yet to continue its descent, was completely suppressed and contained. The immense heat, which had begun to radiate into the air as light energy and was moving downward, was instantly drained away.
This allowed the mortals and low-level cultivators within the Jiang territory, as well as the rare birds, beasts, and spiritual herbs in the mountains, to narrowly escape disaster. Because the white veil had been erased so quickly, the mortals and low-level cultivators in the Jiang territory did not even realize what had occurred.
Looking at the dense array patterns in the sky, Jiang Tingting felt a sense of relief, though her brow remained furrowed in confusion. "Who could be so bold as to attack the Jiang family territory?"
"Is it the Ancient Tribes, or visitors from outside the realm?"
"Could it be! That the entities within the major Forbidden Life Zones have finally lost their patience and are preparing to purge the Jiang family!"
Before Jiang Tingting could dwell on it further, a powerful sense of threat descended from the heavens.
*Awoooo!*
A dragon’s roar of agony propagated via divine sense, followed by a vast, overwhelming dragon’s might that blanketed an area of millions of miles!
One must understand, this encompassed the entire Jiang family territory in the Northern Domain! Had this dragon’s might not been completely contained by the Jiang family’s array, the entire Northern Domain, and perhaps the entire Big Dipper star system, would have been engulfed by this pressure.
Under this influence, the vast mountain ranges Jiang Tingting used for cultivation, along with the nearby palaces, saw countless birds and beasts hold their breath, while many Jiang family cultivators in meditation had their expressions change violently. Some, interrupted during their cultivation, even coughed up blood.
The sky, which had just been blindingly white, was now filled with dark clouds in an instant, and a massive, towering figure hovered in the heavens above.
